Yes, you will need to re-create the model in SketchUp using the OpenStudio plugin. OS does not recognize surfaces from SketchUp unless they are in a space (which is a OS object). It is much easier and faster to rebuild the model in SketchUp from scratch then to try to use the existing SketchUp model. Also, the two models will be very different due to the purpose. The architects SketchUp model is very detailed on the exterior and has wall thicknesses and other details that are not used in OS. All surfaces are only a line's width in OS, and you will want to zone out the building, not use the actual spaces as zones.
