I am not sure I understand what you looking to do, but the IDD has some markup in it that may be useful. The so-called slash codes may help you find which IDF input fields have connections to others. You might want to study how "/reference" and "/object-list" are used in the input scheme. There is also "/type node" for input fields that are system nodes.

Also note that there are input field naming practices that might be of use to establish connections. When input objects reference another object, there is supposed to be a pair of input fields, one where the title of the input field ends in "Object Type" and its companion ends in "Object Name." When a input field is supposed to contain the name of a system node, the name should end in "Node Name."
