I Google this question and found this from Thierry Stephane Nouidui, PhD at the Simulation Research Group Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory:
you should use Java 7 which is the version used to compile current release. You might be able to set the path to your JAVA_HOME to Java 7 so you can keep using Java 8 for other applications.
