Could you instead of using Save As, use Export? The latter allows you to save the figure as .gif or .png.

Also instead of saving graphs during simulation, why not saving time series using actors such as the CSVWriter. You will then be able to post process the simulation results? There is search box in the BCVTB menu which allows searching actors by Name.
