Very important point. As an energy modeler with architecture background, I am also very interested to read some reflections on this issue from experts in HVAC and/or EnergyPlus developers. I wonder how far this limits the applicability of EnergyPlus and, as you asked, if there is any trick to emulate such setpoint deadbands.
