Consolidating answers here, here and here:

• Option 1 : Adds HVACTemplate:Zone:IdealLoadsAirSystem objects to the generated IDF - can't edit using the OpenStudio Application (App), at least not without an EnergyPlus measure.
• Option 2 : Adds OS:ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadsAirSystem objects to an OSM (then ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadsAirSystem to the generated IDF).

If using the BCL measure for Option 2, better to rely on Apply Measures Now, then edit the objects using the App. Fewer steps if instead relying on the API.

• Option 1 == easier, yet challenging to edit within the App ecosystem.
• Option 2 == more steps upfront, yet easily edited using the App.
