Something I have noticed about openstudio and its geometry is that it is quite fussy. Here are my tips for drawing in openstudio.

  1. Be careful to name your thermal zones different names.
  2. Plan your drawing of the whole building before starting and make sure not to have too many surfaces
  3. Save versions frequently, close sketchup and reopen your model frequently
  4. If you see a white surface abort immediately and go back to a previous version
  5. Match your surfaces floor by floor, this means that you can correct your geometry as you go and saves a lot of pain at the end. 6.We frequently find missing surfaces when we move from OpenStudio to Legacy, so I don't think you are supposed to do that.

It doesn't directly answer your question, but I thought some tips could help
