2016-04-12 18:12:45 -0500 marked best answer what percentage of battery loss and other losses are counted in eQUEST for modelling of SPV plant ? (please reply with source)

I am modelling a Solar PV plant on eQUEST, I need to know various losses this software considers for calculation of outputs and where would I get part load efficiency curve of inverter which is used as default?

2016-04-12 18:02:04 -0500 marked best answer Is there any option to replace existing weather file of city with another city in Detail Edit mode of eQUEST?

currently i have got outputs of a project simulated in eQUEST for a city, now i want to check simulated outputs of other city for same project.

2015-08-04 10:30:29 -0500 marked best answer Modelling of roof top solar photovoltaic plant in eQUEST

I have modelled 157.5 kWp roof top SPV plant in eQUEST with three electric generators of 52.5 kWp and three inverters of 93% efficiency. Each electric generator of 52.5 kWp is having 210 modules (1 module=250 Wp ) connected in series and parallel combination, i.e. 15 in series and 14 in parallel.

After simulation, In .SIM file, I found that the ratio of inverter output(AC kWh) to inverter input (DC kWh) lies between 60%-75% despite of 93% inverter efficiency.

  1. Would you please answer why 25%-40% loss is shown through inverter?
  2. Is there any option for battery in eQUEST for SPV plant modelling?

Inverter Specifications:

Capacity per inverter : 50 kVA; Efficiency: 93%; Inverter control : Run when needed; Minimum ratio: 0.02; Maximum ratio: 1.0752

Here are the relevant sections of the inp file here.

2015-05-06 01:38:44 -0500 marked best answer How to modify weather file for eQUEST?

I have already converted .epw file of energy plus to .bin file. Currently i need to change solar radiation of file with local values. So Is there any possibility to change same?

@Justin: When I open Jaipur EPW weather file available here http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/building...data3.cfm/region=2asiawmoregion_2/country=IND/cname=India using elements, I see values of both Global Solar and Diffuse Solar radiation are same, these values must not be same according to theory, Would you please explain what exactly happening here ?

2015-04-09 04:46:43 -0500 commented answer Too high energy savings of VRV system over RHFS, modeled in eQUEST for same 3 floor building

@Daniel: Many thanks for your time, I have tried to keep same air flow rate for both HVAC systems, this results in high number of unmet hours in proposed case if i keep same cooling design CFM as in standard case.

I cannot remove fins of proposed case and keep same lighting in both cases, because i need to compare energy consumption of real proposed building with standard code compliance building.

I have attached new cooling energy consumption results in question, My worry is about savings obtained in March, April and October.

@Daniel: I am unable to attach INP and SIM file here in question. Could you please write me your email?

@Daniel: Thanks for response, I have modeled VRV as per this pdf http://www.daikinac.com/content/asset... My proposed case is modeled with VRV and standard with RHFS so I am interested for real saving of VRV over RHFS. As per discussion with other experts around me this saving is too high. Only cooling is done with RHFS.

building model with VRV is having shading with fins. where would i get simulated comparative energy performance analysis of both systems and reasoning for savings obtained other than COP and part load efficiency?

@Benjamin: please write me your email address, I will send INP file

2015-01-12 22:29:27 -0500 commented answer Daylight harvesting on a floor of building model in eQUEST

Dear Benjamin, Thank you for response, solar heat gain through envelope of the building is already there in both cases(i.e without daylight and with daylight). Without daylight case: there is no use of daylight illuminance and building lighting is set "ON" ; With daylight case: building lighting is set "OFF" using daylight sensor wherever daylight illuminance is reachable. Therefore, In my view HVAC cooling consumption should not increase.

Jaipur, India (composite climate)

2015-01-12 04:14:59 -0500 asked a question Daylight harvesting on a floor of building model in eQUEST

I have a three floor building model in eQUEST. To reduce lighting energy consumption of building, I have daylight set to "ON" for the second floor of the building and I got following results when I use Jaipur, India weather file (.BIN)

eQuest Results

  1. lighting energy consumption decreases which makes sense
  2. Why does HVAC (cooling) and fan energy consumption increase?

Moreover, I am getting proper energy consumption reduction when I use weather file of Atlanta for same building model.
