2017-03-06 17:57:51 -0500 commented answer Glare Simulation in Openstudio

Thank you! But for analyzing the results, I was wondering if the 4 classes of glare (defined by Wienold) still apply to this DGP-simplified?

Also, in 'glare.json', does the value of "raw" correspond to the eye illuminance?

2017-03-02 10:03:09 -0500 asked a question Glare Simulation in Openstudio

Hello all,

I wanted to get some glare results in Openstudio. I know that Openstudio uses DGP for calculating glare and vertical eye illuminance+source luminance are important components of the formula. I have placed a glare sensor in my model and I assume that the location of this sensor represents the location of the eye and the direction of the arrow corresponds to the direction of view. But is that correct/sufficient to obtain accurate results?

Also, is there any way that I can view the results of vertical eye illuminance and source luminance?

Thanks

2017-01-11 15:26:51 -0500 commented answer Vertical solar radiation on windows/walls

Thanks! The variable I need is Surface Outside Face Incident Solar Radiation Rate per Area; Now based on the definition this variable includes ground diffuse radiation. However, in my model I have not defined a ground. Would that matter?

Thank you. Do you know where I can find the definition of each? I could not find that in Eplus documentation.

I meant solar radiation on vertical surfaces.

2016-12-29 15:40:55 -0500 asked a question Vertical solar radiation on windows/walls

Hi all,

I was wondering how to find the value of solar vertical radiation on windows/walls in Energyplus or Openstudio. I cannot find it on the list of output variables in Energyplus and it seems that Openstudio-Radiance does not generate this value either.

Thanks, Maryam

I checked it and there were no strange characters. There are also two more errors coming after this one saying that there are ASCII 187 and ASCII 191 in the text.

2016-06-21 12:22:59 -0500 asked a question IDF Parsing Error

Hi all,

I wanted to edit my E+ file in IDF editor. My IDF file is the output of my OpentStudio-SketchUp model. But when I want to open the IDF editor it says "IDF Parsing Error". I have this error for lines 4861-4870 and then I have this one: "Too many errors when working with the file. Please examine the file in a text editor to fix" I checked the lines in notepad and they look fine.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Thanks!

2016-05-30 16:05:04 -0500 asked a question IDF files in openstudio output folders

I wanted to know if I can use the IDF file in OpenStudio output folders to edit some simulation parameters in energyplus; and will the changes in IDF file affect the OpenStudio model as well?

If so, could you please let me know which of the IDF files is the right one to use? Because After running simulation in OpenStudio, I have two output folders which have the IDF files. One is under 3-Userscript-0 and the other is under 4-EnergyPlusPreProcess-0.

2016-04-29 15:41:57 -0500 asked a question Modeling different shading devices in openstudio

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what is the best way to model shading devices in openstudio? The only tutorial that I could find is this link: http://nrel.github.io/OpenStudio-user... But the method it presents does not give me many options such as setting the size and type of the shading, assigning shading to a specific window, etc. Are there other ways that I can define shading devices such as louvers or blinds in openstuido? Also, is there any way that I can see the added shading in the sketchup model? and I need all that for lighting analysis.

Thanks

2015-10-20 11:50:02 -0500 commented answer How can I model a double or triple pane window in Openstudio?

Thank you Rob. Just to make sure that I am getting this right....it doesn't matter that I cannot define the number of panes and the gas between them in simple glazing material?

2015-10-19 15:00:14 -0500 asked a question How can I model a double or triple pane window in Openstudio?

Hello all,

I am trying to model a double pane window which I have the optical properties including solar heat gain and visible transmittance. However, I cannot find out how to define the number of panes and the gas between for a window in Openstudio. It is neither under the simple glazing window system nor under the glazing window materials. So I was going to define the glazing window materials and the gas window materials (under materials) and then use them as layers(under construction)for a specific window. However, the problem is that I have the properties for the whole window, not every single pane. So, I would appreciate if you let me know the right way for doing this.

P.S. I am using Opentstudio for Radiance simulation.

Thanks, Maryam

Dear all,

I need to get the data regarding daylighting metrics after I run a simulation in Radiance through openstudio. It seems that it is saved in the file 'radout.sql'. However, when I try to open this file through notepad I only see a bunch of mixed fonts and numbers. Anybody has any idea how to fix this?
