2016-04-12 18:09:42 -0500 marked best answer Exporting full (component-level) simulation results to CSV from OpenStudio

I am currently transitioning from ESP-r to EnergyPlus and would like to know how I can export full EnergyPlus simulation results to a .csv file through OpenStudio? If it's not possible, what would be a straightforward way to obtain these?

By full results I am referring to thermal and component side temperatures and flow rates per time step of the simulation.

2016-04-12 18:08:19 -0500 marked best answer Is there a working OpenStudio model with an ice tank / storage?

Dear All,

I was wondering if there is a working OpenStudio model available, where Ice Storage is used to store heat at night time and use it during peak load time.

Thanks,

Jim

Thanks @aparker you guys are doing a great job!! Keep it up and we'll be here to report any bugs.

Quick update: Apparently if I remove the VFD and then add another fan the simulation crashes. But if I add another fan and then remove the existing VFD the simulation executes perfectly. I guess openstudio does not like it if I leave the system with no fan even for a second.

I know this is an old post but I am having the same problem and it seems like it's what @MattStewart mentions in his comment. I define a new HVAC system, connect zones and the model runs. Then I switch a VFD fan to a constant flow fan and the simulation crashes. Then switch back to original VFD and simulation crashes again which means that the problem lies on removing defined components in the .idf file. Is there a way around it? I will try to manually remove the previous definition from the .idf file and see what happens.

You are a life saver Eric! That post had all the information I needed. I turned on "design days" and voila! I suppose that would make this post a duplicate, if so please go ahead and delete it. If not you can post an answer and I will accept it.

Yes I use OpenStudio, sorry I forgot to mention it. I opened the .err file and get a warning, several severe errors and a fatal error. My first error which I think causes all the following ones is this:

* Severe * IP: IDF line~9868 Object=CONTROLLER:MECHANICALVENTILATION, name=CONTROLLER MECHANICAL VENTILATION 1, Required Field=[Zone 1 Name] was blank.

2015-11-03 14:53:49 -0500 asked a question Error when adding hvac system to model

Hi all,

I have a model that runs fine without an HVAC system but when I add even the simplest HVAC system and run a simulation I get 5 errors and the following message in the tree view:

"EnergyPlus Starting

EnergyPlus, Version 8.3.0-6d97d074ea, YMD=2015.11.03 14:43

Processing Data Dictionary

Processing Input File

**FATAL:IP: Errors occurred on processing IDF file. Preceding condition(s) cause termination.

EnergyPlus Run Time=00hr 00min 0.46sec"

I know this is a very generic error but I was hoping someone here might have a few things for me to try. I tried many different settings, made sure everything looks similar to a model with an HVAC system that produces results but could not make it work.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Jim

Hi,

I just installed OpenStudio 1.8.0 and created an account at the BCL website according to the instructions on the OpenStudio Introduction website. When I put in the Authentication Key I get an error that the key is invalid.

Anybody has any idea what might be causing a problem?

Thanks!

Jim

Hi Neal,

Thanks for the answer, very helpful. Wish I could mark both answers as correct.

Take care,

@YixingChen Thanks for letting me know!

Thanks for your answer @aparker. So E+ does not actually model the liquid and air flow networks. Is that correct?

2015-10-02 14:59:46 -0500 asked a question How is pump and fan power calculated? Does E+ actually model liquid and air flow networks?

Hi community,

When I define a refrigeration loop and run a simulation, I get values for pump and fan power consumption in the report. How are these values calculated? Does openstudio / E+ assume pipe and duct length and flow rates, and actually models the fluid flow or is it a more rough estimation?

Thanks!
