2016-03-18 03:36:28 -0500 | asked a question | OpenStudio/EnergyPlus as comfort calculator Is there a plan to develop comfort calculator for OpenStudio and/or EnergyPlus? 2015-10-05 18:05:42 -0500 | commented answer | Net wall area in OpenStudio and/or EnergyPlus Uurrghh, just when you thought you have a perfect solution! It turned out the the SQL table does not contain any SHGC information. Well, don't you love EnergyPlus. It throws around the results in bits and pieces here and there, that you need to assemble it yourself. May be this is a new result measure that OpenStudio can assemble. |
2015-10-05 18:02:36 -0500 | commented answer | Net wall area in OpenStudio and/or EnergyPlus Nope, it does not appear in the HTML summary report. I simply need to nett area or the walls, and it appears ONLY in this SQL table. |
2015-10-05 17:59:04 -0500 | commented answer | Net wall area in OpenStudio and/or EnergyPlus David: yes, the HTML table does have the parent surface information. The problem is that we have to do it manually, i.e. for every window we need to identify the opaque surface, and then subtract the gross area. This is very tedious job. I cannot make a query for the HTML tables like I can in SQL. |
2015-10-05 07:25:18 -0500 | answered a question | Net wall area in OpenStudio and/or EnergyPlus It turned out that such table exists: in the SQL file. If you ask for a SQL report in EPlus (OpenStudio default), you will have SQL output. For whatever reason, the information I need is reported here and only here. And the best part is: it is not reported through ResultsViewer in OpenStudio. To access the data, we need to use sqlite3, and the following SQL code will extract the right information: |
2015-10-05 06:57:59 -0500 | commented answer | Net wall area in OpenStudio and/or EnergyPlus Wow, v1.9 .. I am teaching v1.8 using v1.7 installed in my computer. I guess I need to skip v1.8. And from the sound of it, it does not give what I want. Write a measure?!! This is my one biggest grievances against OpenStudio: the developers are very easy to suggest "write your own measure" like every other Joe down the road can type in Ruby. May be it is easy. But back in the day when "Add Output Variable" was just released, I tried to come up with "Add Meter". I thought it was going to be easy, but I managed to mangle the code. |
2015-10-05 06:45:50 -0500 | commented answer | Net wall area in OpenStudio and/or EnergyPlus Input verification in HTML only list the overall surface area per zone, gross wall vs window. I did not explain that the reason for this question is to use the EPlus summary result as the basis of OTTV calculation. Simply a table with list of surfaces (and sub-surfaces), orientation, nett area, U-value, SHGC (if applicable). |

2015-10-03 21:39:01 -0500 | asked a question | Net wall area in OpenStudio and/or EnergyPlus I just realized that the envelope summary in EnergyPlus does not include the nett area of the walls. Only gross area is reported, i.e. the wall area without windows. Anybody knows where the nett area of the walls is reported? Is there a user-script for this in OpenStudio? Thanks. |

2015-05-04 20:41:48 -0500 | asked a question | How to rename surface in OpenStudio? OpenStudio gives sequential names to surfaces (like Surface 1, Surface 2, etc). I am looking for a way to rename the surfaces based on the space name. It does not have to be realistic (like Bedroom Surface West, Bedroom Surface North, etc), it can also be sequential (like Bedroom Surface 1, Bedroom Surface 2, etc). |
2015-02-10 16:44:45 -0500 | commented answer | Accessing OpenStudio Model Objects from EnergyPlus Measure The solution for me is probably a lot easier: I have to make it work for just this one particular model, with a certain setup of zones and equipments. So I can easily use the HVACTemplate in EnergyPlus, and the inject the expanded version into this OSM using the EnergyPlus measure. I hope that will work. Presuming that it works, the most important question is: will I be able to use PAT, i.e. change some of the values in those IDF objects injected by the EnergyPlus measure? If so, how? |
2015-02-07 02:54:46 -0500 | commented answer | Is there a way to define dual duct VAV system in OpenStudio A follow up question, right here. |
2015-02-07 02:53:28 -0500 | asked a question | Accessing OpenStudio Model Objects from EnergyPlus Measure I attempt to answer my own question. As usual it leads to more problem. In a nutshell, I am trying to define a dual-duct HVAC system in OpenStudio. As one answer suggested, it can be done as EnergyPlus Measure. So I went down this road. My plan of attack is:
I managed to get all the zones attached to the HVACTemplate:Zone:DualDuct objects. But the problem is: I cannot create the system objects. Ideally, I want to have one AHU per floor. So the question is: can I get to the OpenStudio "model" objects in EnergyPlus measure? What I imagine is to create one dual-duct system per building story, and then attach zones in that building story to the system. This requires access to "model" objects. What I have tried is something like this: Well, the above snippets failed. So, how can I access "model" objects from an EnergyPlus measure? |

What I imagine is using the HVACTemplate:System:DualDuct and appy it to the every building story, and then HVACTemplate:Zone:DualDuct to every zone in that building story. Is this do-able? |
2015-02-06 18:40:53 -0500 | asked a question | Is there a way to define dual duct VAV system in OpenStudio I need to define a dual duct VAV system in OpenStudio (v1.5). I just realized that it is not supported yet, and from the HVAC roadmap, it has a second priority to be implemented. My question is: is there a workaround to define this anyway in OpenStudio in order to stay in OpenStudio (and to be able to use PAT)? We cannot go to EnergyPlus because then we cannot use the PAT. |
