Without checking the model I would have two guesses: 1) Either you have set the cooling limit to limitCapacity, but you

Thanks for the helpful answer. But in the example file SolarCollectorFlatPlateWater.idf there are availability manager objects (e.g., see below) which seem to be meant to force flow when the fluid can freeze or gets very hot. But there are still numerous timesteps which have out of range temperature for water. Is something wrong here in the example? How can one actually model an operation which has freezing and overheating protection?

And in the zone air balance heat equation, it is not the 'inside face conduction heat transfer' rate that represents the heat transmission through envelope, but those capturing the heat transfer between the surface and the air. But all in all, in my opinion getting a manual heat balance in EP is not a trivial task and it is a pity as it can be very helpful to understand the building performance. I had put a request to address this issue in the feedback site. https://energyplus.uservoice.com/foru...

2016-07-11 07:23:59 -0500 answered a question simulation heating setpoint deadband

Very important point. As an energy modeler with architecture background, I am also very interested to read some reflections on this issue from experts in HVAC and/or EnergyPlus developers. I wonder how far this limits the applicability of EnergyPlus and, as you asked, if there is any trick to emulate such setpoint deadbands.

2015-10-29 08:16:07 -0500 asked a question Glass door as the default door but with problem

In OpenStudio plugin 1.9.0 when you project a loose door, it will be automatically defined as a glass door, and this type of fenestration has no construction in the IDF model.

Previously, it was by default a door (with an assigned construction) and we knew that, it's better not set it to glass door in OS. I don't why they have made it the default door type, without assigning a construction to it.
