Apparently I have two of the rooms, each with a slightly different name, I deleted the one without any spaces and now everything appears to be fine. BTW, the advice you provided for the other question was helpful. Thanks again!

I guess they are related, although it is a different error. The first question I believe was related to the complexity of the space.

2016-08-22 15:14:27 -0500 asked a question Space floor area not exporting to SDD

Hello all,

I have been having some issues with exporting my models to CBECC. My primary issue is with the calculation of floor area, see my errors as follows: Space 'FF Bedroom 205' has zero volume.

Space 'FF Bedroom 205' has zero floor area.

Cannot compute floor print for space 'FF Bedroom 205'.

Space 'FF Bedroom 205' has less than 1 floor surfaces.

Space 'FF Bedroom 205' has less than 3 wall surfaces.

Space 'FF Bedroom 205' has less than 1 roof or ceiling surfaces.

Cannot compute floor print for space 'FF Bedroom 206'.

Cannot compute floor print for space 'FF Bedroom 207'.

In this model I continue to have issues with the failure to calculate floor area. The area comes into the editor program fine and runs but when I try to export into CBECC-COM the error is triggered. This happens for the same area of the building consistently, with every measure taken to fix it seems two new issues are created, resulting in a maddening endless loop of zero progress. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Dustin

2016-08-16 10:40:09 -0500 commented answer How do I model a cold dark shell for performance compliance?

Thanks Anna, I just saw your comment. On most of our projects we do have an issue with the WWR (+ most builders in my area like to build with metal studs and dislike using rigid insulation) so I typically show Perf-Env compliance which allows for trade-offs. This way we are set up in a good place when the TI takes place. This approach required modeling a "dummy" mechanical system that meet the prescriptive requirements in order to run compliance. I see now in the most recent software versions modeling a mechanical system is not required.

Thanks for your comment.

2016-05-03 13:03:14 -0500 asked a question Refrigerated Warehouse: How to generate cooling loads?

Hello all guru's,

I'm in the process of migrating our firm over to Energy Plus/OpenStudio from Energy Pro and I am having some difficulty with generating loads (typically they are lower than what I would expect probably best saved for another posting). Currently my issue is with a simple refrigerated warehouse, it has two refrigerated zones: one to be kept at 45deg and the other at 34. After I run the simulation there isn't any data generated for of the load profiles in either Energy Plus or OpenStudio.

One I had an error with the cooling supply air temp at 29deg(f) in the Cooling Sizing Parameters tab. I adjusted it to 32 and the error went away.

I've modeled a simple refrigerated cooler system and I think everything is set up properly. Although I can select the space for the cooler its serving it is not attached to the Zone Equipment for the space n the Thermal Zones tab. I have Ideal Air Loads on.

Does anyone have an idea as to why I'm not getting any data in the design load output?

Can anyone help with this issue? I'm at a loss and would be happy to send out any file that may help.

Thanks,

Dustin

2016-02-11 10:14:42 -0500 commented question what causes "cannot compute floor area" when exporting SDD/xml

Right Here? <spc> <name>Permanent Exhibit Gallery Interior</name> <vol>55263.9</vol> <area>2908.63</area> <polylp/> <thrmlznref>Thermal Zone 2.5</thrmlznref> <intflr>

This is the only place where <polylp/> occurs.

2016-02-10 15:45:58 -0500 asked a question what causes "cannot compute floor area" when exporting SDD/xml

I'm getting a "cannot compute floor area" error for one zone. This happens while exporting to SDD/xml from openstudio v 1.10.0. Ive gone through the zone trouble shooting, it has multiple zones below and has some ground contact floor area as well. is there a limit to floor surfaces or matched surfaces in one zone?

Thanks,

Dustin

Really trying to dial in this model and I'm seeing lots of inconsistencies. The zone area for the openstudio results is 10x more than e+.image description(/upfiles/1455122614110665.jpg)(/upfiles/1455122588815665.jpg) Thanks,

2016-02-09 18:37:05 -0500 asked a question why are the data fields way off in openstudio results?

Hello everyone,

In all of my results the data fields are way off of what I would expect (and in what is provided in the E+ results)image description, I've inserted a snipit.

It's not only the weather data, the area is way off of what is shown in the model and E+ too -it seems everthing is off.

I am desperately trying to migrate our engineering practice over to E+ and openstudio but having major growing pains with the loads and exporting into CBECC-COM.

Thanks, Dustin

I have a similar issue; but with openstudio. The results show areas around 10x what are actually modeled while E+ has them correct.? I've got this going on in all of my models is it normal?

Thanks, David. I thought going into it that they are really two separate questions but couldn't help my self! I ended up using the recommended measure and it worked. I couldn't believe it -I had the remove orphaned sub-surfaces measure in and not the one you suggested!

2016-01-25 11:59:00 -0500 asked a question OpenStudio: eleminating undrawable surfaces in OpenStudio?

Hi all,

I have a surface error as follows:

*** 19088 , !- Zone Name * Severe * IP: IDF line~19088 Error detected in Object=BUILDINGSURFACE:DETAILED, name=SURFACE 130 * ~~~ * Field [Zone Name] is required but was blank * Warning * IP: Note -- Some missing fields have been filled with defaults. See the audit output file for details. * Severe * IP: Blank "required" fields found in input * Severe * IP: Out of "range" values and/or blank required fields found in input * Fatal * IP: Errors occurred on processing IDF file. Preceding condition(s) cause termination. ...Summary of Errors that led to program termination: ..... Reference severe error count=3

I am not able to edit this one out in Sketchup and it does not appear in the OpenStudio editor...Once I open the out.idf file in the IDF editor I can find the surface (130) with its missing zone cell highlited and change it. This works fine however, I'm just beginning to use these programs and need to size a plant off of the loads. I really need to use I-P units for my calcs.

Another issue and this may belong under another heading; I can import the fixed idf into OS but my constructions and spaces are gone... I can fix the spaces but the constructions are timely to build and I really need to be able to "move" them in and out of different files. To date I have had zero success moving the constructions in and out of different project files, I expect the BCL can be used for this but I haven't found any guides or tutorials on exactly how to achieve this..

Any help and or guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dustin

2015-05-15 13:24:44 -0500 commented answer How do you recommend modeling VRF multi-zone heat pump systems in CBECC?

With Energy Pro thee is a workaround where you can model VRF/VRV's using a split DX system using minimum values and imputing the fans (combined) in the central system. Its crude and does not due justice to the efficiency of the system but at least it can be done. By back to Energy Pro, I mean I have been steering away from it due to the fact that it is "behind" in the roll-out of the Energy+ engine. They are using still using v3a.

Thanks for confirming what took me a complete day to unsuccessfully find a workaround. You have saved me possibly another day and a missed deadline... Back to Energy Pro for this one!

I am having trouble modeling a Multi-Zone VRF heat pump system in CBECC... None of the system types available match up to the definition of a central heat pump condenser. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to model a multi-zone VRF system with a central Condensing Unit and 23 fan-coils?

I am using CBECC's-COM and importing my .xml from Energy Pro 6.5.

Thanks,

2015-05-02 10:01:11 -0500 asked a question Zone box dissapears when selected.

When attempting to create a room/space within a Zone Box, the zone box disappears without a trace. I'm wondering if this has something to do with my software configuration? After a quick search I was unable to find anything about this problem. I can draw without it disappearing if I do not select it first; I cannot right click or double click on it.

Using Sketchup 14 and Legacy Open Studio 1.0.11.414 with E+ 8.1 ( windows vista 32).

Thanks,

2015-04-30 16:06:28 -0500 asked a question How do I model a cold dark shell for performance compliance?

I've got an winery with 9,500sqft of administration shell to be finished later as a T.I. with a small cellar break area to be completed with the process area. What is the proper way to model the occupancy of the shell area to show performance compliance?

Is there a trick or special way to model "Unocupied Area" I continue to get a Zone Temp Set error?

I originally modeled the building in ENERGY PRO v6.5. and then brought the file into CBECC-COM. Energy plus is fairly new to me, however, I do intend to model all of my projects using it in the future. I am targeting 2015 T24 compliance, without LEED or other reach code.

Thanks,

Dustinl
