2018-06-19 08:07:28 -0500 marked best answer ReadVarsEso - exporting to a spreadsheet

Hi! I need to use OpenStudio output results to create my own graphs using a spreadsheet(Excel). At the moment I need do extract temperature data for each division of my building for one week of my running period with 1 hour time step. I read some similar doubts and it seems that for this purpose ReadVarsEso is used. Can you tell me step by step how can I use ReadVarsEso? I installed EnergyPlus but I’m not figuring out how I can do this. Do I have to re-run the input file created by OpenStudio with EnergyPlus? Is ReadVarsEso the best solution or there are more practical ways to do this?

2017-05-09 12:37:30 -0500 marked best answer Changing period simulation

Hi! I made my first building model using sketchup and now I’m using OpenStudio to make simulations. My goal is to predict building consumptions for next day(s)/week using real weather data(next days forecast) and then try to optimize HVAC consumption by changing the setpoints. Can you tell me how is possible to make simulations for just 1 day/week?

2017-04-16 14:54:50 -0500 marked best answer Output file - electricity tariff

Hi! I modeled my buiding with OpenStudio. I'm also using jeplus to change the HVAC setpoints during the night(at night electricity costs changes) so I can find the setpoints that reflects the lower electricity costs. Changing my HVAC setpoints during the night will give me thousands of simulations. I'm trying to find in my *.rdd file any output variable that is related with tariffs/costs but with no success. As changing HVAC setpoints during the night will give me thousands of simulation jobs it's impossible to add the electricity tariff to an excel spreadsheet(after using ReadVarsEso) by hand and then multiply each hour tariff by the each hour Facility Total Purchased Electric Power and then obtain the Facility Total Purchased Electric cost for the run period(1 week). Exists any measure that can add the tariff to the *.eso file and then multiply the tariff by the Facility Total Purchased Electric Power? Do you know any other way I can solve this problem? Thank you

Thank you for your suggestion Julien.

2016-07-11 14:36:47 -0500 commented answer Humidity control

Thank you Julien. I added the Humidifying and Dehumidifying Setpoint Schedules and associate them to my single thermal zone in the "Thermal Zones" tab. I have some doubts in the way we can control the humidity with a Packaged Rooftop Heat Pump. What components realize the humidification/dehumidification of the zone? Should I have to add in the "Thermal Zone" tab a Dehumidifier-DX? If the solution is to add a Dehumidifier-DX in which node do we have to add the Setpoint Manager(minimum/maximum)? Thank you

2016-07-08 09:18:21 -0500 asked a question Humidity control

Hi! I'm modeling a single zone building with OpenStudio. I'm trying to control the humidity inside the building.I added a Packadge Rooftop Heat Pump to my building model. As I have low knowledge about HVAC system I started to search questions about how to add a humidity control system to my model. This and this questions/answers gave me an overview about how to do it. In the first step I'm trying to add a Zone control:Humidistat by adding, in the Thermal Zones tab, the Humidifying and Dehumidifying setpoint schedules to my single zone but I'm not finding in the library this schedules. It is possible to had a humidity control system to a Packadge Rooftop Heat Pump? Thank you

2016-06-22 14:02:50 -0500 asked a question Electric equipment and HVAC system

Hi! I'm modeling my building using OpenStudio. I've having some problems with HVAC system and I'm trying to find de origin of the problem. When I set the Electric equipment "Design Level" to 10000W I obtain this simulation results for a winter week:

image description

This results looks normal because when the interior temperature hits the heating setpoint the HVAC system starts to heat the building. In this simulation no cooling load is needed.

When I just change the Electric equipment "Design Level" to 30000W I obtain this simulation results:

image description

By only changing the electric equipment from 10000 to 30000 the HVAC system starts to cool and heat the building in periods that the interior temperature is between the setpoints limits. I think this situations shouldn't happen and I'm trying to figure out what can be the problem. From your experience can you tell me what can be causing this problem?

The images in this question are in a hourly basis. Here are the results for the detailed simulation.

Thank you

2016-06-16 13:29:07 -0500 commented answer Photovoltaic in OpenStudio

Thank you for your answer David Goldwasser! The measure for the battery storage exists at the moment? Is there a way we can control the direction and inclination of the PV panels in OS?

2016-06-16 11:04:29 -0500 asked a question Photovoltaic in OpenStudio

Hi! I'm trying to add a photovoltaic system to my model using OpenStudio(version 1.10.0) so I can obtain the Kwh for a runperiod simulation. What is the way you advise to do it? I add the "Add Simple PV to Shading Surfaces By Type" measure but I'm not seeing how we can specify the power of the PV system and other important informations like inverters and electrical storage. Where I can find information about how to add a PV system to a OS model? Thank you

2016-06-08 17:54:44 -0500 commented answer Adding a HVAC template in OpenStudio

In this plot you can see applied my weather data. The temperatures are higher so I think there is no need to heat the building during the night. If the AVAC system heats "automatically" the building during the night to me that's a problem because I want to study strategies to refrigerate the building during the night to save in the energy costs.

2016-06-08 17:43:44 -0500 commented answer Adding a HVAC template in OpenStudio

Thank you for your answer Eric Ringold! I set the reporting frequency to "detailed" and I can see that there's no simulataneous heating and cooling. There's one thing I don't understand. In the begining of the day(1am) the system "knows" that at 9am the heating setpoint is higher(from 19C to 22C) and starts to heat despite de interior temperature is between the chosen setpoints? But we also can see cooling working during the night... This cooling during the night I don´t understand. Is there a way we can put the cooling and heating working at the trully setpoints limites that we choose?Thank you

2016-06-08 16:02:15 -0500 commented question Adding a HVAC template in OpenStudio

This HVAC template only have 1 setpoint manager: "Setpoint Manager Single Zone Reheat 1". This setpoint manager is in node 3. Should I have more setpoint managers or this "Setpoint Manager Single Zone Reheat 1" also controls the "Coil cooling DX single speed" and the "coil heating DX single speed"? I added new plot information in the question field. Thank you

I'm running the simulation for 1 week period for each hour. What is the output variable name that you want to plot? I searched in the *rdd file but I can´t find nothing similar. I uploaded my files here.

2016-06-08 13:38:43 -0500 commented question Adding a HVAC template in OpenStudio

Thank you for your comment adhilton! For this study I can't use those managers that predicts the cooling or heating load that you refer. I have to know what is happening "in real time". I think the small spikes are significant, specially when we try to optimize the building electricity consumption. But it is my opinion and I'm not an expert in this subject.

2016-06-08 12:11:20 -0500 asked a question Adding a HVAC template in OpenStudio

Hi! I'm trying to model a single zone building with OpenStudio. I'm trying to insert a HVAC system that works only with electricity. The type of system is not important to my study and I apreciate if you could advise the most appropriate one.I need to add the HVAC system because my study will be focused in the set of setpoints that gives the lowest HVAC energy cost.I added a Packadge Rooftop Heat Pump and attached to it my single thermal zone. The AVAC system is not working correctly. The "Coil heating DX single speed" and the "Coil Cooling DX single speed" presents electricity consumption when the interior temperature is between the cooling and heating setpoints. There are also situations where we can verify heating and cooling energy consumptions at the same time. My knowledge in HVAC system is far to be good and some help is needed. For this simple AVAC system do I have to add other(s) component(s) to the selected HVAC system or the HVAC template provided by OpenStudio is enough to my system works correctly? I appreciate if you could check my project to give me a clue for what I have to do to add the HVAC system correctly. Thank you

2016-06-07 20:22:53 -0500 marked best answer HVAC - what is the best system for my project?

Hi! I'm working on my first project using OpenStudio. My goal is to predict my building consumptions and to optimize HVAC system setpoints. Until the moment I was using ideal air loads and now I'm trying to add the AVAC system but I have no knowledge on this matter. My building is a supermaket with just 1 zone and I would like to use HVAC system for cooling/heating based on electricity(no gas). Do I have to create loops or do I have any simple solution? What is the HVAC system that you suggest? Thank you

Hi @aparker!I'm sorry to bother you.I'm having some issues with the HVAC system template.I added the Packaged Rooftop Heat Pump to my model but I'm having some issues. The building is cooling and heating at the same time and even when the interior temperature is between the comfort limits the system is always heating.Adding the HVAC template and connect to it the thermal zone is enough to have the HVAC system ready to work or I have to add more components? Can you help me with this situation.Thank you

2016-06-07 19:00:44 -0500 commented answer Problem with HVAC - adding a setpoint manager

Thank you for your answer buddy1187! I'm trying to add the "Setpoint Manager One Stage Cooling"(I don't know if is this the right one) but with no success. I tryed to place this setpoint manager in every single nodes to test the AVAC behavior but the system does not maintain between the heating and cooling setpoint limits. Some help is needed. I don't have knowledge on HVAC design and to progress in my modeling my building I need to find the solution for this problem. What is the Setpoint Manager I need to use and in which node I have to add it? Thank you

2016-06-06 15:51:55 -0500 commented answer jeplus - maximum number of jobs - memory usage

Thank you for your answers! Yi Zhang, imagine we want to change the cooling setpoint, for one hour of the day, with this interval values [22:0.1:24]. So we'll have 20 jobs. If we make this for all 24 hours of one day we'll have 20^24, that is a quite amount of jobs. My intention is to make this, but for smaller intervals[22:0.5:24], for 1 week runperiod. The memory I'm talking about is the hard disk memory because each job has about 1MB.If we have a huge amount of jobs is good to have a way to eliminate the worst cost(in my case) results at the same time the simulation runs.Thank You

2016-06-06 15:09:52 -0500 asked a question Problem with HVAC - adding a setpoint manager

Hi! I'm modeling my single zone building using OpenStudio. I'm having a problem with my HVAC system because sometimes the heating and the cooling coil are working at the same time. image description

In this example the cooling system starts and then stops for a little time, and the interior temperature is very far from the cooling setpoint. The AVAC template I added to my model is a Packaged Rooftop Heat Pump. image description

I had an identical problem some weeks ago and I asked here in unmethours. At the time @rraustad suggested me to had another setpoint manager. Until the moment I didn't find how to add a setpoint manager in OpenStudio and I'm a little bit lost in this situation. Can you please explain me how to add a setpoint manager in my HVAC model? How can I solve this problem? Here is my model. Thank you

Thank you for your answer Yi Zhang. I'm trying to collect the single job that has the lowest electricity cost. As I'm creating a huge amount of jobs the memory resource is an issue. It is possible, while simulations are running, to store the job with the lowest electricity cost and all the jobs that presents an higher electricity cost aren't stored in the memory? Thank you

2016-06-02 21:12:18 -0500 asked a question What is the correct *.idf file to use in jeplus?

Hi! I modeled my building with OpenStudio. I'm doing simulations with jeplus using the in.idf("1-ModelToIdf-0" folder) created by OpenStudio. Reading this question I started to question what is the diference between the in.idf and the out.idf because when I use the in.idf in jeplus I don´t observe any strange results. Can you tell me what is the correct *.idf file to use to run simulations in jeplus? Thank you

2016-06-02 13:22:23 -0500 edited question How to mix a *.rvi file with a *rvx file?

Hi! Everytime I want to do a simulation in jeplus I have to run a simulation with a *.rvi file and then I have to run another simulation with a *.rvx file just to obtain one tabular value from the eplustbl.csv. My *.rvi file is: image description

and my *.rvx file is:

image description

Is there a way so I can obtain all this output results in the same output file (AllCombinedResults.csv) by mixing the presented *.rvi with the *.rvx file? If I could have, at least, the Total Electric power of the building or the hvac electric demand power information together with the Total Energy Cost, in the same "AllCombinedResults.csv", it is really helpful. Thank you

Hi! I'm making simulations using jeplus. I'm trying to obtain results from the "eplustbl.csv" file. My *.rvx file is this:image description

At the moment, in the end of the simulation, I'm obtaining 3 *.csv files("Custo Total.csv", "Unmet Cooling.csv" and "Unmet Heating.csv). Is there a way I can obtain these 3 results in one single *.csv file but in diferent columns? Thank you
