Hi All,

Can anyone assist on modelling a gas fuelled Fuel Cell m-CHP in a domestic dwelling? The type of energy system that I am trying to model is similar to the one shown in the image below:

The building modelling is already modelled on EnergyPlus, however, I am trying to adapt it with fuel cells. The unique example I saw from the EnergyPlus documentation is the MicroCogeneration.idf file. The example file is based on the REFERENCE: "Experimental Investigation of Residential Cogeneration Devices and Calibration of Annex 42 Models." A report of Subtask B of IEA/ECBCS Annex 42, which is available from http://www.ecbcs.org/annexes/annex42.htm.

It is being a bit frustrating because even in the Energyplus HTML-documentation (http://bigladdersoftware.com/epx/docs...) I found it very hard to understand. Hence, a bunch of errors...

@Julien Marrec, thanks for editing the post and commenting. I am still finding difficulties to spot the backslah with quote that is missing in the cfg. This should be written automatically because it is generated using the ExcalibBEM interface. I am finding this issue with my model only. The example files are working perfectly. I am actually starting to assume that the problem have to do with the python file...

I am actually using the interface ExcalibBem to calibrate an idf file simulation with a measured data and does not work at all. The objective is to match the Interior electrical equipment consumption of the model with the measured data, selecting several electrical equipment parameters. The error I get is as follows:

I have a model named EZEBH_SAHP , another model named GHZEBH_SABLR and a last model named CHZEBH_SC. The EZEBH_SAHP and GHZEBH_SABLR have the same U-values, but the CHZEBH has lower U-values than the other two models.

That means that EZEBH_SAHP and GHZEBH_SABLR should have the same space heating demand, and lower space heating demand than CZEBH_SC, however, when I run the simulations and compare the three models, GHZEBH_SABRLR has higher space heating demand than CHZEBH_SC.

I have done the following in order to obtain the space heating demand (according to energyplus helpserve):

That can be tricky depending on the type of equipment you are modeling. "Zone Air System Predicted Sensible Load to Heating" is not a good choice if you plan to sum the value over time, because it represents the load required to reach the setpoint at the current timestep. If the load is not met, then any remaining load may be included again in the next time step.

For forced air systems, Zone Air System Sensible Heating Energy reflects the amount of heat that the system actually delivered to the space. This can be summed over time and will reflect the heating requirement as long as the system meets the load. The purest approach is to use the ideal loads air system which will always meet the load exactly.

For other system types, such as baseboard and radiant heat, you need to report the specific equipment output, such as Baseboard Total Heating.

To determine the heating demand without internal gains, you need to run a second simulation with all of the gains scheduled off.

How can I obtain in the output simulation of the Domestic Hot Water Demand? I noticed that on my model (attached), the water consumption is too low. What could be the reason?

I have modelled in the Activities module, a water rconsumption of 150 litres per person a day.

I am actually trying to develop an algorithm to shift the load demand during on-peak hours using GenOpt. I have had a quick trial testing the example file HookJeeves Algorithm, however I have some doubts in order to achieve my target.

I would like to start with something very simple such as:

$\min_{J} : C(t) dt$

Where,

$C(t) = [P_{HP} + P_{DHW} +...] * TimeOfUse (t) $

• $C(t)$ : Cost function

• $TimeOf Use(t)$ : on-peak hour tariff prices and off-peak hour tariff prices

• $P_{HP}$: Power associated to a Heat Pump

• $P_{DHW}$ : Power associated to the Domestic Hot Water

and,

• 18C <= Temperature indoor<= 21C

• 45C <= Temperature Domestic Hot Water<= 55C

Therefore, I am not too sure if HookJeeves is the best algorithm to use for this case, and if it is, how can I set the time of use parameter and constraint the temperatures.

• I have updated the E+ version by using the IDFVersionUpdater. From v7 to v8.3 .

• In addition, as there is no 'RuenEplusPaarallel.bat' file at the 'energyplus7_0_0' folder I copied one from 'energyplus5_0_0' folder.

• I have also considered to change the weather file versions to the latest ones from E+ v8.3.3.

Any suggestions?

@Julien Marrec, the issue has been solved in energyplus support desk. It had to do with the radiators component sizing. They were oversized. Thanks very much for your collaboration. My email is sambukanteh@gmail.com. All the best!

@Julien Marrec, Thanks Julien. I had to update the file from E+v8.1 to E+v8.3, and then correct some errors that the simulation was providing. I will try to update the version to 8.3 and share it with. In addition, I will draw the E+ diagram including equipments and setpoints. Thanks

I have modelled an energy system for a domestic dwelling to provide space heating and and domestic hot water. The system consists on a solar thermal panel with storage tank assisted by a gas fired condensing boiler (see diagram). However, the boiler does not works at all.

The connections seems to be OK. Any suggestions please?

The diagram, and the idfile is also attached in this email. However, I am getting an error that I cannot figure out. I do not know why it is requesting me or providing me an error of placing a pump at each plant loop. I am trying to avoid the heatExchanger, but if it is required to finish the modelling I will do so.

Please, any suggestions?

How can I model a water to water heat pump between a solar collector and water heater.

Is there any example file from energyplus? In addition of the documentation, as I went through it but is not clear to me the steps.

Note: This model is a special case as usually water to water heat pumps are made to perform with ground source heat exchangers.
