2016-10-14 09:48:50 -0500 commented answer Unmet heating hours with ventilation, VRF System (Openstudio)

I was modeling a VRF and DOAS, and I ran into an issue of priority between the two systems. Once I worked that out, I was able to significantly reduce the unmet hours. It looks like this specific discussion pertains to a single VRF system using the OA supply within each terminal unit. I look forward to any insights as they come up. The VRF seems to be an increasingly popular choice.

Thanks for the help. Is there good explanation of why this works as a fix?

How do you change the design day temps for just the VRF system? Are you changing the Zone Cooling/Heating Supply Air Temps for each zone serviced by the VRF? or you changing the Design Day temps for the project?

Do eQuest and EnergyPlus leap-frog each other with each update so a comparison of specific capabilities is not universal to all the versions? Do both programs intend to cover the same market?

2015-02-10 08:48:24 -0500 commented question Four pipe distribution system

Thanks David, I think this was the issue. For the sake of anyone else who might be as big a novice as me, I got the system to work by dropping the Four Pipe Fan Coil Units into each zone on the thermal zone tab and then linking them back to the hot water and chilled water loops. Air is supplied separately through a DOAS with uncontrolled diffusers for each zone.

It has happened on at least two unrelated models on two different computers, but the first time I was paying less attention to my sequence of actions were that caused the crash. At the moment I am trying to set up a primary and secondary pump like this: https://unmethours.com/question/2734/... but every time I try to edit the links for the water coil, the whole program crashes. I'm also going to retry in the morning.

I am able to cross off all the items except: "The model has an Airloop with an OA intake system, but none of the zones connected to the Airloop have a DesignSpecificationOutdoorAir object." Is this object editable in OpenStudio?

2015-02-09 00:34:48 -0500 asked a question Four pipe distribution system

I am sure this is a simple answer, but I am having trouble adding a four pipe distribution system into the zones. Eventually I am working toward a DOAS with Four-pipe distribution connected to a chiller and boiler. At the moment I have basically followed this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-L9H... to add a ventilation system. I added the four pipe fan coils in the thermal zone tab and I linked them to the different cold and hot water plant loops. I'm getting an error associated with the mechanical ventilation controller. Is this something that can be solved in OpenStudio? I tried randomly assigning a zone to the controller in the .idf file but I ran into additional errors.

Right now the geometry is very simple, and I'm just trying to better understand all of the objects and connections that need to be made to make the four-pipe distribution work. Maybe I'm not looking in the right locations, but I haven't found much documentation.

I'm don't know if this is the best place to post this, but I have been tripped up by this bug a couple times. I'm using OpenStudio 1.6.0 and it seems that when I change a plant loop assignment on a coil without first unchecking the box it is currently assigned, OS completely shuts down. Is this a known issue?

2015-01-30 13:18:05 -0500 commented answer SketchUp looking for OS1.5.0 when OS1.6 is installed

Thank you! It turns out the other problem I had was that the appdata\ folder was hidden on my work computer. I only noticed it existed when I was attempting to use the dependency walker listed here: http://nrel.github.io/OpenStudio-user...

That same help document was what allowed me find the directories for sketchup plugins. I uninstalled 1.5, deleted all plugins in the listed locations, and then rei-nstalled OpenS 1.6.0. Now I'm up and running.

To clarify, the error message occurs when I open SketchUp not OpenStudio.

This actually happens even when I've uninstalled all versions of OS.

2015-01-30 09:57:30 -0500 commented answer SketchUp looking for OS1.5.0 when OS1.6 is installed

I am doing a complete re-install, updating both SketchUp and OS. I am doing the same thing on two computers and on the one where OS1.5 was NOT previously installed, everything works great. I'm using SketchUp 2015 (64) and OS 1.6 (64-bit).

2015-01-30 09:16:38 -0500 asked a question SketchUp looking for OS1.5.0 when OS1.6 is installed

I updated OpenStudio from 1.5.0 to 1.6.0, and I changed SketchUp from the 32-bit to the 64-bit version. Unfortunately I cannot get SketchUp to find the new OpenStudio Plugin. I keep getting an error "Error loading OpenStudio SketchUp Plug-In cannot load such file C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenStudio 1.5.0\Ruby\Console"

I tried a couple different orders of installation. I get this message even after I uninstalled and re-installed SketchUp. I also get this message when OpenStudio isn't installed at all.

I imagine that some place on my computer there is a residual file telling SketchUp to load the old OpenStudio version that escapes the uninstall. Does anyone have any thoughts?
