2019-02-03 15:54:32 -0500 | marked best answer | Water Heater properties I wanted to build up a model of my own, so I downloaded a DOE prototype midrise apartment from the online library. But when I check the water heater, I found it hard to understand all the properties, especially the Off/On cycle parasitic fuel consumption rate and Off/On cycle loss coefficient to ambient temperature. I mean, where did those values come from (some company website? etc...), or is there a standard or reference for that? Thanks! |

2019-01-25 09:32:15 -0500 | marked best answer | DOE prototype Midrise Apartment Water heater size I loaded DOE prototype midrise apartment and I found that it's using 1150 gal electricity water heater, while highrise apartment is using 600 gal natural gas ones. It makes no sense cause midrise apartment has about 32 units and highrise apartment has around 80 units, and end use percentage by water system for midrise apartment is too high. How can I fix that and is there any standards for that? |

But per the TEK note 06-02C1 from NCMA, it should be 0.527 Btu/ft2hR. What makes the difference? Thanks! |

2018-11-24 21:36:55 -0500 | marked best answer | Modification on DOE prototypes I downloaded DOE prototypes from BCL, and selected to create a Midrise Apartment. The prototype is a 4-story, 8 units per floor apartment while we are looking for creating a 2-story, 4 units per floor apartment. So I deleted the mid-floors, moved the top floor down, deleted units in the middle in Sketchup. Then I deleted the used HVAC system in Openstudio. But it can't run showing a FATAL Errors found in processing Energy Management System input. I am curious that is it OK to delete all content related to the deleted units in the EMS part when I open the Openstudio file with text. Though it runs, I don't know if the result reliable or not since there is no such pattern like this in the tutorial. |
2018-11-24 21:36:40 -0500 | marked best answer | How to create or edit Energy Management System in Openstudio I was modifying a DOE prototype downloaded from BCL in Openstudio. I came into some errors when I deleted some zones (cause I wanted to reduce the building size and room quantity), I noticed that there are EnergyManagementSystems(EMS) remained in the files(when I checked in text), so I deleted it and the simulation runs. My question is, how comes that I have to editing in text while I was using an Openstudio software? Is there way that I can modify the EMS in Openstudio? |
