2015-08-10 13:45:31 -0500 asked a question What is the best hardware setup to minimize run time?

I see some recommendations that tend to indicate high processor speeds and that the software can really only run on one core unless you are running parallel simulations.
What are the recommendations for v8.1? Has this changed in v8.2 or 8.3?

2014-09-10 22:30:20 -0500 answered a question What is the best practice to model an Atrium in EnergyPlus?

There are a few relevant example files of methods packaged with v8.1. I am using one called AirflowNetwork_Multizone_HorizontalOpening.idf. I am currently applying this example on a project where I have stack flow through a 2 story atrium space. I have a lower level and upper level opening which I am modeling for natrual vent. Seems to be working out well.

Also, for anyone who doesn't know about the E+ sample files, check out the install directory \EnergyPlusV8-1-0\ExampleFiles\ . Also, there is a spreadsheet in that directory that summarizes each file and very handy for keyword searching.

Nothing to offer, but this is great. Thanks for sharing.

Notepad++ for sure. The Compare plug-in is really helpful for quickly comparing .idfs. Ahh, I see that is also noted above.

There are some really great sites that you can purchase files. Some sites include pre-formated files for .epw, .bin, etc.

The cost ranges from about 15-75 dollars for a year of data. These include typical meteorological years, actual meteorological years, etc.

In my opinion it is totally worth it to just purchase the file. Sometimes when you download free data (from say NCDC or energyplus real-time data, which I think is the same source), there can be gaps, errors, missing data, etc. which can take hours to clean up. I just downloaded a file for 2013 in downtown los angeles and for 40 dollars and was able to get the following file formats (AMY.bin, AMY.txt/.csv, AMY.epw, AMY.stat, AMY.tm2, AMY.tm3). It took about 1 hour from the time I purchased to get the file. TOTALLY WORTH IT. I won't post the names for the sites, but do a keyword search and you should be able to find something fairly quick.
