2015-02-20 13:28:52 -0500 | answered a question | Create an interior window It was a distraction mistake. I didn't assign the correct thermal zone to my greenhouse in the OpenStudio Inspector. |
2015-02-20 12:10:52 -0500 | asked a question | Create an interior window I'm using the Open Studio Sketch Up Plug In (v. 1.5, Energy Plus v. 8.1) and I'm studying the thermal behaviour of an apartment with a lean-to type greenhouse. I need to create interzones interior windows between the greenhouse and another zone. So I draw a sub surface (selecting in intended surface type: "Interior Window"-see attached) on both the interior walls of the interested spaces and than assign the right boundary conditions to both. ..but i've create interior windows. Am I missing some steps? I can't understand where I'm wrong. Thank you for the suggestion. |

2015-01-22 16:41:25 -0500 | answered a question | Radiance export aborted I solved the problem removing the slash from spaces names.. so don't write "kitchen/lounge" because Radiance doesn't like it. |

2014-12-15 14:49:51 -0500 | asked a question | Monthly charts problem My run period in OpenStudio Simulation Settings goes from 1 Jan to 31 Dec and some selected Output variables are setted on "Monthly". Why monthly charts in Results Viewer shows values from 3 March to 31 January (February is completely missing) ? The daily charts don't have this problem going from 1 Jan to 31 Dec. |
2014-12-15 12:51:53 -0500 | asked a question | Studying thermal behavior I'd like to study indoor temperature values in 4 housing units (that are representative models of a 112 units social housing building) to provide a baseline for an energy retrofit proposal with different upgrades in the envelope. So, at the moment, my goal it's not sizing an hvac system but study thermal behavior in the original building. I followed these steps in OpenStudio SkectchUp Plug-in: create sketch up geometry, define spaces and building construction with my own materials, shading surfaces, schedules assigned to the spaces to define basical loads (people, lights and electric equipment loads, infiltration flow rate and design specification outdoor air )- finally the creation of a thermal zone. At this point is it correct to check "turn on air ideal loads"? From my basic knowledge I've to turn on ideal air loads to allow heat trasfer simulation e to sum space cooling and heating loads.. Then I will insert thermostat schedules with dummy setpoints (very high in summer and very low in winter) to simulate a situation with “HVAC off”. Is it a correct method to proceed? Thanks in advance for your help. |

2014-12-11 08:26:04 -0500 | asked a question | How to include heat losses due to thermal bridges? Hi, I'm a student and I started use OpenStudio recently, so sorry if I miss some basic knowledge about it. Clearly it's not necessary to create beams and columns in the OpenStudio SketchUp Plugin to simulate the energy performance... but I don't understand how to include heat losses due to thermal bridges because in my case they are significant. It's a single family apartment alterning a concrete frame of beams and coloumns withouth insulation with no-structural insulated bricks walls .. do you think that a good way is modelling walls accounting of overall U-Value (U-Walls * area fraction + U-FrameStructure * area fraction) changing one or more conductivity field to match my target U-value or is there another way that I'm missing, for example the possibility to add thermal bridge coefficient (Ψ-value) ? I've checked this previous answered questions : https://unmethours.com/question/1304/... https://unmethours.com/question/1821/... thank you in advance for your help |

2014-12-09 19:26:32 -0500 | answered a question | how to design the columns and beams? Going back to the answer above.. "Once you migrate to the OpenStudio Application to finish the model you can define the properties of your beam and column construction(s)". Clearly it's not necessary to create beams and columns in the OpenStudio SketchUp Plugin to simulate the energy performance... but I don't understand how to include heat losses due to thermal bridges in OpenStudio because in my case they are significant.. it's a single family apartment alterning a concrete frame of beams and coloumns withouth insulation with (no-structural) insulated bricks wall .. do you think that a good way is modelling walls accounting of overall U-Value (U-Walls * area fraction + U-FrameStructure * area fraction) or is there another way that I'm missing, for example adding thermal bridge coefficient (Ψ-value) in some way ? thanks in advance for your help |

I've just tried to follow your hint, installling sofware with the correct order and with administrator rights during every step.. but this is not the solution for me! any other ideas please? |
