2018-06-05 03:53:16 -0500 marked best answer determining heating and cooling in peak conditions

I'm a student Engineer and I am new with EnergyPlus. I am doing a simulation to obtain the heating and cooling loads in peak winter and summer conditions. I am doing the simulation setting through the class: "SizingPeriod:DesignDay" the worst winter day (by considering no internal heat gains and no solar radiation) and the worst summer day(by considering internal and solar heat gains). The building has two thermal zones and the HVAC system is ideal.

I do not know how to proceed. The first question is: since, as prescribed by the UNI EN 12831 for a winter design day, I should set a constant temperature throughout the day (-8°C for my location), where I can set this value (and also considering solar radiation equal to zero)? Should I not use the Weather File? Moreover, Should I consider the design day in the SizingPeriod class or set it also in the section RunPeriod (by selecting also system sizing)?

The last question is: Can I run a simulation for these two different days and obtaining the required values of cooling and heating loads or should I run them separately?

2018-02-02 05:22:58 -0500 marked best answer EnergyPlus: how ventilation affects heating and cooling needs

I want to include the effect of ventilation in my simulation. A real mechanical ventilation system does not exist yet in the building I am considering. However I want to take into consideration this effect without sizing a real system. What I only know is that I should change something here C:\fakepath\Ventilation.PNG, but I do not know what type of ventilation to choose between natural, intake etc (I do not have any information concerning fan pressure rise etc..). My purpose is to consider in what extent "ventilation" affects the cooling and heating needs of my building and so the electrical consumption without the presence of a real mechanical ventilation system.

2018-01-20 04:14:53 -0500 marked best answer EnergyPlus Warning: Schedule: missing day types

Some warnings are displayed in my simulation in EnergyPlus. First of all, I am wondering if I can ignore them, since no errors are present or I should check my simulation beacuse warnings may affect it.

In the case these warnings are to be considered : in the section Schedule:Compact I set for example the functioning of some electrical equipment. They are working only on WeekDays, during August and weekends I set them equal to zero. Here it is attached an example of what I performed: C:\fakepath\electric_equipment.PNG

The warning is the following: " ProcessScheduleInput: Schedule:Compact="ELECTRIC EQUIPMENT" has missing day types in Through=7/31 * ~~~ * Last "For" field=FOR: WEEKENDS * ~~~ * Missing day types="Holiday","SummerDesignDay","WinterDesignDay","CustomDay1","CustomDay2" * ~~~ * Missing day types will have 0.0 as Schedule Values" ".

Should I specify the functioning also in these days? I am setting up the operation only in the weekdays so I though it was enough.

A warning is displayed in my simulation in EnergyPlus :

"GetSurfaceData: Construction DIVIDER WALL of interzone surface SURFACE 3 does not have the same materials in the reverse order as the construction DIVIDER WALL of adjacent surface SURFACE 16 * ~~~ * ...but Nominal U values are similar, diff=[0.0000] ... simulation proceeds. * ~~~ * ...if the two zones are expected to have significantly different temperatures, the proper "reverse" construction should be created ".

What does it mean? How can I solve it?
