2022-05-06 02:57:37 -0500 | marked best answer | Can we use epjson as input file to run energy simulation? I understand that EnergyPlus is planning to use epJson as input/output file.
However, when I open EP-launch.exe in v9.0.1 which I use to run EP file usually, seems I cannot select json file as input file.
Are there any documentation which explain how I can use epjson file as input to EP-launch or CLI?
Also, are there any converter available from idf file to epjson and vice varsa? |
2021-11-11 11:28:30 -0500 | marked best answer | How temperature setpoint and sensed temperature is calculated in "Controller:WaterCoil" I am modelling for LEED baseline system 8.
When I tried to implement Chilled-Water Design Supply Temperature Reset in HVACTemplate:Plant:ChilledWaterPlant , I got following error. ** Severe ** FindRootSimpleController: Controller error for controller = "A_LZ_SYS COOLING COIL CONTROLLER"
** ~~~ ** Environment=ANNUAL, at Simulation time=01/04 05:40 - 05:50
** ~~~ ** Controller function is inconsistent with user specified controller action = Reverse action
** ~~~ ** Actuator will be set to maximum action
** ~~~ ** Controller control type=Temperature and humidity ratio
** ~~~ ** Controller temperature setpoint = 9.64 [C]
** ~~~ ** Controller sensed temperature = 12.02 [C]
** ~~~ ** Controller humidity ratio setpoint = 1.09E-002 [kg-H2O/kg-air]
** ~~~ ** Controller sensed humidity ratio = 6.46E-003 [kg-H2O/kg-air]
** ~~~ ** Controller actuator mass flow rate set to 165.08 [kg/s]
Referring to other post , I tried to debug it. However, I don't know how Controller temperature setpoint and Controller sensed temperature are calculated which makes debug difficult.
Can anyone tell me any document or pages which is explaining how these two are different and calculated? |

2021-08-16 20:41:46 -0500 | marked best answer | Why condenser inlet temperature get so high just changing CT outlet setpoint temp? I am investigating how cooling tower outlet temperature setpoint affect to cooling consumption using the model with water cooled chiller+cooling tower.
In this study, I tried to change cooling tower setpoint from 21degC (case1) to 32degC (case2) using SetpointManager:Scheduled .
Even though case1 was operating as I expected checking chiller condenser inlet temperature, chiller condenser inlet temperature get over 40degC in winter season which I cannot explain why. (climate is Hong Kong) I checked cooling tower heat transfer rate , but seems working without problem.(refer to second image)
Could someone tell me what could be the reason causing this operation? |
2020-11-02 10:05:46 -0500 | marked best answer | Sequential load distribution scheme seems not working I am modelling with multiple water cooled chiller in energyplus.
In idf file, I specified SequentialLoad for Chilled Water Distribution Scheme . However, looking at the result, it seems that multiple chiller is operating before 1 chiller get to full load as shown below graph.(x:part load ratio/y:COP)
Does anyone know why this happen? Added
Timeseries stack plot and stack plot by ascending total cooling rate is added following @aparker instruction.
Looking at the 2nd graph, I can see the fluctuation when the consequent chiller start to be operated. Is this usual? or something is causing this fluctuation? |

Are there any variable pump model with performance curve which comply with requirement already available on the internet? |
2020-05-06 23:59:05 -0500 | marked best answer | VRF system shows high COP compared to specified COP I am modelling a VRF system for a typical office building in Hong Kong.
The result shows high COP compared to specified COP. in HVACTemplate:System:VRF , Gross Rated Cooling COP is set to 3.68 as shown in below image. However, the result COP sometimes reach to 6 which is much higher than specified value. I am assuming that this is caused by default performance curve prepared by EnergyPlus.
Can anyone come up any other possibility causing this high COP situation? |
2020-05-06 23:58:14 -0500 | marked best answer | Why chiller operate below minimum Part Load Ratio? I have idf file which implement series of chillers setting Minimum Part Load Ratio 0.2.
However, looking at result, it seems that chiller is being operated below Minimum Part Load Ratio (0.2) as pointed out by red line in below histogram graph. (visualized data excluded the case part load ratio = 0)
Does anyone know why chiller operate below minimum Part Load Ratio and teach me how to avoid this operation? |
