Thank you for explaining these details!

I am using one of the PNNL's prototype models for simulations. The IDF file I am using was developed based on Phoenix's TMY3 epw, stat, and ddy files, and therefore Site:WaterMainsTemperature, Site:Location, and SizingPeriod:DesignDay are all for Phoenix. If I want to use this IDF for another location in the same climate zone with the corresponding epw file, will these fields be overridden by energyplus (I know Site:Location will be overridden by epw)?

Upon checking the epw file I have, there are several headers including Design Conditions, Typical/Extreme Periods, and Ground Temperature. Will these headers be used in energyplus (e.g. for autosizing)?

For your reference: I will only use epw file for an annual run, and no ddy file will be used.

Yes, I saw this feature request. Such a feature will be super helpful! Thank you @shorowit

I've been trying to run some idf files through command line using energyplus.exe feature (see here), but I got fetal errors. The same idf file successfully runs through EP-Launch.

Upon checking the forum I realized that energyplus.exe in command line would not run basement.exe and slab.exe preprocessors.

Is there any option to run these preprocessors through command line? I am expecting to use this in both Windows and Linux so RunEPlus.bat might not be an option.

I am using the command line to run energy plus. Is there any way we can directly modify IDF (like output meter) in the command line? My understanding is that the functions we can use in the command line are rather simple.

Yes OpenStudio is indeed another option. I will try it. Thank you.

Ah I never used epJSON before. I guess a text editor might work for me. Thank you!

Hi everyone. I am planning to use the residential prototype building model listed here for some simulations in New York. But based on the description "... which is then simulated across 16 climate locations for each edition of the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), the idf for climate zone 4A seems to be developed for Baltimore only.

My question is can I use this 4A prototype to simulate residential buildings in other locations in the same climate zone? Or it has to be Baltimore?

Thank you.

Thank you @shorowit. I never used EMS program before. Can this be done using IDFEditor?

2021-05-06 01:19:37 -0500 marked best answer How to calculate total space heating/air conditioning in EP?

Hi everyone. I am using EnergyPlus to calculate actual space conditioning load for the entire building (facility). The IDF file I am using is one of the prototypes from here (https://www.energycodes.gov/developme...). I know we can add new outputs in "Output:Meter" for IDF file in IDF Editor, but the available meter options do not include total space heating energy or total AC energy.

For example, based on mtd file, the energy use for cooling should include supply fans, pumps, and cooling coil, but the option "Cooling:Electricity" only considers cooling coil. Other options such as "Fans:Electricity" includes fans for both heating and cooling, which is impossible to separate heating fans from cooling fans.

Is there any option we can use to output total energy use separately for space heating and air conditioning? Thank you.
