2016-12-13 02:58:36 -0500 commented answer Error in Surface match using Surface measure from bcl and also using surface match tool in sketchup.

@ David Goldwasser : Hi Sir, I made a custom measure for surface matching with the above code included in place of the run method. I added this measure in the measure tab of open studio and then applied measure using the "apply measure" on top. However after some time : the " running measure tab" is freezing and not responding and also open studio is not responding.

I humbly request you send me the above file containing surface matched model to my email adhiraj.singh.chem@gmail.com .

Thanks Alot for your help.

@ David Goldwasser : I tried putting the above code in place of the run method of a custom measure that i created. However my simulation failed at 77% and the following errors(attached) came up. I humbly request you send me the surface matched file to my email adhiraj.singh.chem@gmail.com..

For your reference i am attaching the error from the simulation.

Thank you David . I had no clue what went wrong but many thanks for the help. Kindly send the fixed file when you can at : adhiraj.singh.chem@gmail.com. Thanks again.

Yes. I am using the measure on a clean copy copy of model that hasnt been intersected using the sketch up plugin. Thank you. I will be looking forward to hear from you.

I had to match internal surface of my model. 1)Firstly I used the surface match tool in sketch up and tired intersecting & matching the model. After i matched it. When i reloaded the model , an error message showed ( attached below)

2) Alternatively i used the surface measure from BCL in openstudio and error as " segementation" fault was showN ( ATTACHED)

Please find attached the errors and the open studio file.

My OpenStudio File is here

I would really appreciate the help.

2016-12-01 02:25:13 -0500 commented question I got different values for Window to Wall Ratio (WWR) of the same building geometry using two different approaches ?

I guess the problem was resolved. According to @David Goldwasser and @Eric Ringold's suggestion, I matched the interior surfaces (Surface Matching) and then found the WWR . Now i get similar values of WWR using both approaches. I hope the problem is resolved. Thanks. i will keep in touch for further questions and from next time i will upload screenshots.

@David Goldwasser : Kindly review my answer to your question which may help you in proving the answer to my original Question.

Thanks

2016-11-25 23:53:11 -0500 commented question I got different values for Window to Wall Ratio (WWR) of the same building geometry using two different approaches ?

For Scenario 1: I used the Open studio tool/plugin which simulated the sketch up model. I did it floor wise. I deleted all floors but one and assigned the whole floor to one thermal zone and then simulated model to get the WWR in the open studio results section. I did this all floors one by one.

For Scenario 2 : Yes I calculated the surface area of the building model that had already window in them . I calculated it as WWR = window area/(window +wall area). Yes, the building has plenum in it.

Kindly help

2016-11-25 23:46:58 -0500 answered a question Why do i get different values for total heat gain energy or heat loss energy for different window to wall ratio values but for the same building geometry

The values of WWR is different when calculated manually by taking the ratio of surface area of window and walls as compared to the WWR values of the building envelope calculated by the open studio simulation results. I dont know why? Kindly help

2016-11-22 18:17:08 -0500 asked a question Why do i get different values for total heat gain energy or heat loss energy for different window to wall ratio values but for the same building geometry

I calculated WWR using different approaches which gave me different values for WWR.

The zone heating values oor heat gain and heat loss are around 1.210^8 J for WWR ~ 9 % but 3.510^8 J for WWR ~35 %. How can there be different heat data and graphs for the same weather and same building gemometry.

2016-11-22 18:07:58 -0500 asked a question I got different values for Window to Wall Ratio (WWR) of the same building geometry using two different approaches ?

I calculated WWR using the following methods ( for which i got different values) 1) simulated the model in open studio and and the results of the simulation gave window to wall ratio values ( which appears very low) 2) i calculated the area of the window and wall surface( selecting the surface and sketchup tells me area) and calculated the window to wall ratio manually ( the values make sense but is nearly 3 times the values given by simulation (step 1))

Please help and tell me which is the simulation of model is giving me a values of ~9% for 8 storey campus university dorm. Manually the WWR comes ~35% which makes sense.

2016-10-31 08:21:56 -0500 asked a question Can i run OpenStudio-Sketchup model with only assigning thermal zone to the building?what else do i need to provide.?

I have assigned the entire model on 1 thermal zone so that i can run my model in order to generate the window to wall ratio . However the simulation is showing error messages and is always showing "failed" at 75 %.
