2017-02-22 23:42:54 -0500 answered a question Do I need to buy SketchUpPro for use with OpenStudio?

You do not need to buy it, the default download is SketchUp Pro and as you said it gets downgraded to SketchUp after 1-month wich is enough to use with OpenStudio, for non-profit purposes.

2017-02-22 23:23:25 -0500 asked a question Is anyone familiar with the differences between International Weather Energy Consumption ( IWEC) and IWEC2 files?

IWEC is still available by the DOE and EnergyPlus website for energy simulation while IWEC2 are sold by ASHARE.

Are they both reliable to be used for building energy simulation? if not Do we need to repeat all building energy simulations with the new sets of data (IWEC 2) to achieve better results?

2016-10-23 03:57:48 -0500 asked a question Water Heater Vs Solar Collector

I've changed the value of the maximum heating capacity of the mixed water heater several times, every time the value of kWh of the water systems changes while the annual water usage stays the same, about 200 m3 per year. How do I know if the target temperature is met?
Also when I replace the Mixed Water Heater with a "Solar Collector Integral Collector Storage", How do I know if the collector meets the hot water requirements?

2016-09-07 23:42:02 -0500 commented answer Ideal air loads (heating and cooling) much higher than other HVAC system loads!

the y-axis is the total energy consumption, i.e lights, heating, cooling, equipment and so on. For ideal air loads it is different types of energy consumption + district cooling and district heating.

2016-09-07 08:05:11 -0500 asked a question Ideal air loads (heating and cooling) much higher than other HVAC system loads!

As the name suggests, Ideal air loads, this suppose to estimate a small load when compared with HVAC systems. However, when I compare Ideal air loads with any other HVAC system the ideal load is always higher. Does any one knows why?

The figure below shows a comparison of different systems for my building.image description

2016-08-23 12:13:01 -0500 commented answer Does anyone know where to find the values of solar, thermal, and visible absorptance of building materials?

Thanks , but the all absorpatance cells are empty in that file. By the way, I am using energyplus version 8-4

I found many for windows, walls and others. But the idea is to get a reference for my data. Can you provide a link for WINDOW7? thanks.

2016-08-19 13:08:46 -0500 asked a question Does anyone know where to find the values of solar, thermal, and visible absorptance of building materials?

I am trying to run a simulation of local residential buildings. Most building's material properties are found in ASHRAE. Can you let me know where to find solar absorptance, thermal absorptance and visible absorptance for different materials used in building construction such as walls, roof, windows , etc...?

Does anyone know where to find solar, thermal, and visible absorptance of building materials?

2016-08-16 01:56:10 -0500 asked a question Problem with Hot Water Services Modeling!

I am trying to model HW system but sometimes I get errors regarding controls as described below. When I try a test model, one space building, it works but with my building, there are always errors. I checked out all schedules and setting but no way. Your help is appreciated in advance.

2016-08-11 11:37:11 -0500 asked a question How to get OpenStudio Summary Results (including graphs) in SI units?

In openstudio Results Summary, I have chosen the Metric units from preferences but the results still appear in IP units. Is there a way to see all the results and graphs in SI units.

2016-08-03 08:02:40 -0500 asked a question Does anyone know how to model a split unit air conditioner in OpenStudio?

I am trying to model an air conditioning split unit in openstudio . I found PTHP and PTAC but I can not find the suitable component for a split unit.

Is there a built-in component? If not what is the alternative?
