2016-07-27 18:06:27 -0500 | asked a question | Energyplus multi zone HVAC system I am a student currently developing my architectural dissertation. I have encountered a problem I have not been able to solve. I need to set up a combined, constant air volume system, with a fan coil system for a three story building. My dissertation is about optimising the glazing ratio. I have used several approaches to do so, specially using the example files from energy plus. First I tried setting up the HVAC exactly as the example file, which worked perfectly, however as soon as I added more zones the error appeared and increased the zones being left with a thermal zone = to zero. I am currently trying to set up the System for 34 thermal zones, 26 with CAF and 8 with Fan coil HVAC. I have tried using more than 2 AHU units to serve the multiple zones, as well as changing the Heating and cooling set points and starting over but the issue persists. I have to say this is my first big project using energyplus and my understanding of HVAC system is rather limited. I have used the templates with the hope it would simplify the process but I haven't yet succeeded. I have uploaded the Error log as well as upload the link to my idf file. I appreciate any help you might provide. |

2016-07-22 10:35:32 -0500 | commented answer | JEPlus WWR displaces window from surface help Apparently, there is a bug, since the fenestrations created in openstudio were displaced when using WWR formula on JE Plus. When creating the windows inside the Energy plus interphase, the geometry coordinates had to be set to lower left corner before the creation of windows, otherwise if set to upper left corner Energy plus was not abe to create the window geometry enclosed in the host surface. Hope this helps clarify the issue. It is important to note I am using the openstudio pluggin for the Sketchup pro 2016 OSX. |

2016-07-21 14:49:34 -0500 | commented answer | adapting HVAC template Energy plus Thank you for your fast response Chandam. I am not familiar with the expandedObjects.exe but I will give it a go this weekend to see if I manage to pull it off. I will let you know how did it go. |
2016-07-21 14:39:57 -0500 | answered a question | JEPlus WWR displaces window from surface help Thank you Yi, I managed to fix the issue by constructing the Windows under the window input section on energy plus. Apparently, exporting the IDF from the openstudio interphase caused the fenestrations to have different coordinates the the ones specified by energy plus. By anually replacing the fenestrations for windows the problem was solved |
2016-07-20 11:09:48 -0500 | asked a question | adapting HVAC template Energy plus Hello to everyone, I am currently working on my dissertation project on energy plus and need to model a chilled beam HVAC system for my building which approximately has 36 thermal zones. I have found the cooled beam model in the example files of the energy plus folder. However this is to complex for my aim and therefore have caused me several errors when trying to implementing it to my file. Is there any way to tweak an HVAC template to "behave" as a chilled beam system? or set it up as a chilled beam with the inclusion of minimal inputs? Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to provide |

2016-07-11 09:28:48 -0500 | asked a question | JEPlus WWR displaces window from surface help Hello everyone, I am in the need of help. I have used the window to wall ratio formula as is indicated in the example at the jeplus website, i manage to make the window to change dimensions based on a centre point. However, it also moves the window away from the base surface therefore there is no overlap. Please I would appreciate if anyone could help me since I have been struggling to solve this for over a week. Thank you |
