2019-07-17 13:08:48 -0500 marked best answer OpenStudio SDK file

Is there a single file that contains all of the SDK documentation (e.g. JSON or XML)? I want to automate some things and having a file into which I could do lookups on objects and their methods and the required data types for those methods would be awesome. I don't care so much about the object or method comments; some sort of database of the objects, methods and data types would be enough.

2019-05-31 16:52:15 -0500 marked best answer View matrix MS Windows vs Linux

A very obscure question but maybe someone will know the answer.

I have created view matrix files with the same rfluxmtx command and materials and scene geometry, but the files come out noticeably different between MS Windows and Linux (different machines for both). I've compared the numbers. It seems to be more than just due to just the Monte Carlo method because if I re-run the command on the same machine, the VMXs do not differ by that much, if at all.

Does it have to do with the precision of Windows vs Linux? Maybe the "random" function inherent to rfluxmtx is machine dependent (as it can be in C++ if you don't seed it.).

here are the commands (originally from OS Radiance measure but I am using them on the command line). Of course in Linux it's cat instead of type and the \ become /. Also, I copied the folders directly from the first machine (Windows) to the second machine (Lubuntu).

2019-05-31 16:40:27 -0500 marked best answer Exterior Shading minimum size

I want to model the net solar gain of exterior louvers. Their dimensions and spacing can be relatively close. I want to be sure that despite their size, the shadowing and inter-reflections between slats gets accurately modeled such that the net solar gain on the interior space is accurate. (I'm aware of the BSDF alternative but am exploring straight geometry input as an alternative).

Does this statement in the Shadowing Module section of the Engineering Reference document mean that I can model shadow and reflection for exterior surfaces that are at least 1 mm between all vertices?

Note that the resolution on surfaces/shadowing is 1 mm – using resolution beyond that will result in truncation of the shadowing.
