in the summer yes, but i believe that loss in summer should be zero and gains in winter should be also zero.because heat flows from warmer surfaces to colder. so in the winter when the indoor temperature is higher gains from windows should be zero and the other way around in summer.

i want to know the amount of heating energy that is lost and gained through the windows monthly. i used the tabs ''ZONE WINDOWS TOTAL HEAT GAIN ENERGY '' and ''ZONE WINDOWS TOTAL HEAT LOSS ENERGY '' from ''WindowEnergyZoneSummaryMonthly ''. is it wrong?

hi guys! I am trying to find out the heat gain and loss from one building due to windows and infiltration. My problem is that it turns out that the results of the simulation show heat gains during the winter. why do i have heat gains in the winter when indoor temperature is higher that the outdoor? and also why the infiltration gains are such lower than infiltration losses for every month? is it normal?

2016-06-01 04:55:51 -0500 asked a question questions about HVAC modelling

I am trying to model the HVAC system of the building that I'm studying for my thesis and am having some difficulties regarding which fields I should fill and which not. I have filled the fields up to group-airflow and I don't know what to do after that.

I read in the BigLadderSoftware site that Sizing:Zone, Sizing:System, and Sizing:Plant will be generated by the HVAC system so, I guess I don't have to fill anything in these fields?

Also, do I have to create nodes and branches? Or do I just fill the fields that are required for my HVAC system?

The HVAC system that exists in the building is a 2 pipe fan-coil so, so either choose the 4 pipe option or the ideal loads one.

2016-05-04 09:25:51 -0500 asked a question errors while exporting to energy plus

hi guys! i 'm a new user of openstudio and energy plus and i 'm facing a problem. i have made my model in open studio and i would like to export the idf file so that i can assign materials to surfaces, create schedules etc. but, while i press the export button i get this error ''Error: No construction for either sub surface 'Sub Surface 594', and 'Sub Surface 645'' for maybe every surface i have designed! should i make something to correct this or it will be solved by creating materials and assigning them to my surfaces in energy plus?

2016-04-09 20:06:54 -0500 commented answer After intersecting the entire model and surface matching, only a few spaces interior spaces show up green. What's going on?

i 'm going to use energy plus so i m more interesed in the thermal part. i think i will just draw them as interior partitions. thanks a lot!!

ok! thank you! one more thing, if i model the wall as an interior partition can i assign properties to it, like thickness, i want to draw some stairs and an elevator. i 'm not even sure if i have to draw them, i guess not. what do u think?

if we have a space seperated in 2 rooms by a wall can we use as an ''Outside Boundary Condition Object'' the wall itself?

2016-03-22 22:53:23 -0500 asked a question i have designed some models using sketch up, can i import them to open studio or i must design them from the start?

hi guys! this is my first post! i want to use energyplus for a project. i have done the 3d designing of the building i am going to study in sketchup and now i realise that this was maybe a big mistake because i should use open studio for modelling. do i have to start freaking out?
