2016-03-17 20:08:26 -0500 | asked a question | the end use of low radiant floor heating is too low in the os report Hi everyone, I am doing a simulation for a radiant floor heating system. Now I am using a template found in BCL(by apply measure). The HVAC template I used named AEDG Office HVAC radiant DOAS. My building is a residential building with 6 stories plus 2 parking lots underground. There are 36 units in the building. Now after the simulation, the report shows that heating only accounts for 10% for the total end use, while lighting and interior plug loads occupy 48% and 40% respectively. That does not make sense to me. My understanding is heating should be the largest part, around 50%~60% for the total energy consumption. I tried to adjust the heating schedule. The original setpoint is 18 degree c for heating, I change to 40 C(I guess whenever T below 40C, the radiant heating system will start to work?) However I still get the same number, 10%. I also check the definition for lighting and internal equipment, there are like 4 W/sq meter. Therefore, I guess there is something wrong with the heating only. The number is too low. And when I read the natural gas consumption for heating, the peak shows in Jan and Dec, only 17 MBTU(which is 5kwh). 5kwh one month for the whole building thats ridiculous Does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks for any help. |
2016-03-11 21:08:16 -0500 | asked a question | What's the typical mean radiant temperature setpoint/schedule for radiant floor heating system Hi everyone, I am doing a simulation for a radiant floor heating system. Now I am using a template found in BCL(by apply measure). The HVAC template I used named AEDG Office HVAC radiant DOAS. Now the schedule for the thermostat is 18.3 C to 18.9. My question is when I run the simulation in E+, the variable shows the mean temperature would be below 18, sometimes to 15 C in this case. I dont know why. Beside what's the typical setpoint for the mean radiant temperature of a residential building? |

2016-03-09 20:44:18 -0500 | asked a question | How to control the flow rate in a radiant heating floor system Hi everyone, I am doing a radiant floor heating modelling. When I model it, I assigned The ZoneHVAC:LowTemperatureradiant:VaribaleFlow. My question is if it is variable flow how I can control or set the flow rate to see the impact to room temperature? The only thing comes to me is the nodes shown on the HVAC radiant heating diagram. I am thinking they are like valves to control the flow rate? Thanks for any help. |
2016-03-07 00:57:08 -0500 | commented question | Modelling a Low Temperature Radiant Floor Hi, I do define the weather file. And Sometimes, when it can simulate and generate the report, it still has an error for degenerate surface. Therefore, I dont think degenerate surface would affect the simulation. It is so weird. |
2016-03-06 14:15:36 -0500 | asked a question | Modelling a Low Temperature Radiant Floor Hello everyone, I have been encountering a problem lately when I try to model a radiant floor in OpenStudio. I am currently using the OpenStudio 1.10.0 plugin for SketchUp. My building is a residential building with 6 stories plus 2 parking lots underground. After setting all thermal zones and space types, I use a HVAC system template found in BCL(by apply measure). The HVAC template I used named AEDG Office HVAC radiant DOAS. When I run the simulation, sometimes it shows errors, sometime it doesn't. It seems very random. Does anyone know how to fix it? Errors: Process exited with a non-zero exit code of: 1 Error report file indicates that the process did not complete successfully GetSurfaceData: There are 24 degenerate surfaces; Degenerate surfaces are those with number of sides Weather Simulation requested, but no weather file attached. GetNextEnvironment: Errors found in getting a new environment Error condition occurred. Previous Severe Errors cause termination. Thanks for any help. |

But when I assigned radiant heating to every thermal zone(include parking and unconditioned space), it works.Does anyone know how to fix it? Thank you for any help!Let me know if you need any further information. |
