2016-04-05 14:32:01 -0500 | asked a question | Removing Humidification System Cause E+ Error I am running O/S 1.8.5 and tried to enter a humidifer on one of my air handlers serving 4 zones. I had a Setpoint Manager: Multi-Zone Heating Average and I added a 2nd Setpoint Manager: Multi-Zone Minimum Humidity Average. For each zone I created a humidistat and gave it a humidistat name in the Thermal Zone tab on the graphical input. I created a humidity Schedule to maintain (have no idea on which of the Schedule types to select is vaguely related to % RH so I picked mass/flow in kg/sec and set it at a constant 29 kg/sec to start). I ran it an it failed in E+ (version 8.3). The error was that I was missing my "HVAC Air Loop Name" as it was blank and it was required. I can assure you that my air loop has a name. I even thought my name was too long (AHU_Z1_Z2_Z10_Z17) or unrecognizable so I changed it to "mike" and got the same error. I then manually removed everything (setpoint managers, humidifier, humidity Schedule, zone humidistat names). In order to remove the zone humidistat names the interface does not have a delete feature for the name, so I initially tried leaving it blank for each zone and ran it but got the same error. I then manually deleted each zone and re-linked it thinking that would remove the humidistat name. No luck the same error appeared. I then deleted the entire air handling system and re-entered a new system with the same characteristics but no humidification. I get the same error. I realize that I should save Under a new name after each little change but I did not so I am hoping someone has encountered this before and can help. 3 Questions:
Thank you for even reading this far. Mike |

2016-02-19 10:47:03 -0500 | asked a question | Metric Reports in Open Studio I have entered my building using metric units, however the Open Studio reports are always Imperial. The preferences are set to metric, but it always reports imperial. I realize E+ reports are imperial all the time. How do I change the report format Running O/S 1.8.5 Mike |
2016-02-19 10:47:03 -0500 | asked a question | district heating always stays on I modelled a building using ideal air loads and no HVAC to obtain the loads. It ran fine and reported space heating as district heating. Then I turned off ideal air loads and added a gas boiler loop, AHU, zone heating, pumps, setpoint managers, .... I did all of the connections. I let all of the zone baseboards, AHU, boilers autosize for now. When I run it I now get fan, pump and DX cooling electrical, but zero gas space heating. All of the heating is still reported as district energy. Am I missing a switch to turn off the district heating default? Running O/S 1.8.5 Mike See Attached thermal zone screenshot |
2016-02-19 09:23:22 -0500 | asked a question | District Heating does not get turned off I ran a sim under Ideal Air Loads to get space heating loads. O/S creates a district heating system and this ran just fine. When I turned off Ideal Air Loads and entered a gas boiler, hot water baseboard, AHUs, pumps, setpoint managers, ... and did all of the connections, the sim ran but I got zero natural gas heating and the district heating results were still there. It did model the pump and AHU fan, DX cooling, but zero gas space heating. Is there a way to turn off the district heating and switch to hot water gas boiler for space heating? Mike |
