Energy Management System , though you will have to use EnergyPlus measures to insert the EMS code.

Which Ventilation method are you using ? The Airflow network or the simple Ventilation Design Flow rate etc.. ?

In any case I would say EMS is the answer to all those type of controls. You can just set your Ventilation schedule using Schedule: Constant.

Using EMS, set the temperature of the zone and the C02 concentration as sensors. The component to be actuated is the schedule value. Write your program to execute the control you want. There's quite a lot of literature on EMS in the Input/Output reference and the example files .

Kind of . I created a thermal comfort for my needs from an onsite survey. I'm using the EMS to report the number of hours where comfort is reached but the parameter is depended on various air velocities. According to the documentation this is a user input value through a schedule.

I don't know if i'm right but i'm guessing that without a mechanical fan these values should be low but i would just like to know if there's actually a way to get a value from energyplus in an Aiflownetwork .

Greetings Sir,

I didn't use the room air models with the airflow network. Simple set-up and airflow network and using the AFN node temperatures as reference temperatures for the comfort estimations.

2016-03-13 22:01:14 -0500 asked a question Air velocity in Airflow-network

Greetings everyone,

I am currently modelling a residential house with an airflow-network set-up for natural ventilation in energyplus. I am using the adaptive thermal comfort standards to evaluate the various design strategies.

The velocity field can be input from a schedule which i'm planning to control using EMS.

My question is : What is the right sensor for zone air velocity in an AFN?

Should i mix some sensors and create a formula in EMS for this ? IF so what is recommended?

Thanking you in advance, Jevin

Thank you very much Sir.

Fed the values with the schedule file and working just the way i want it.

Thank you.

Did you manage to set it up @BRIAN?

2016-03-03 23:36:30 -0500 commented answer Using daily values in EMS-Energy+

Is there anyway i could make EMS calculate the daily average , keep that value constant for calculation of thermal comfort of that specific date. Then move on to the next date?

2016-03-03 23:36:26 -0500 commented answer Using daily values in EMS-Energy+

Thank you very much for the answer Sir. The trend variable indeed sums up the previous 144 values but the issue is that the trend value at noon on the second day is the average of 72 values of the previous day and 72 values of the current day. I am using an adaptive thermal comfort standard which is computed with the daily average temperature and I am trying to use EMS to automatically calculate the number of hours the zones fall our of the comfort range.

Greetings everyone,

I would like to use the daily average site temperature as a sensor value in the energyplus EMS.

Though it can be output as a variable I am not being able to use it in the EMS. Any advice?

Best regards. Jevin

Yes I did but the question remained largely unanswered.

2016-03-02 01:40:39 -0500 asked a question How do I model a solar Chimney in an Airflow network ?

Greetings ,

I am using passive solar strategies for cooling of a residential house. As such I set-up an airflow network with operable windows to monitor effect of window operations on the temperature of the model.

As part of my thesis i would like to try how a solar chimney/several small ones would affect the airflow in the house. Saw a question like this which remained unanswered.

Did anyone try and managed to do this ?

Jevin

2016-02-21 23:06:24 -0500 asked a question Airflow-network interzone surface

I am simulating natural ventilation in a house through an airflow-network in energyplus.

Interzone surfaces are defined twice in the building surfaces. I have looked at the example files and they only define those surfaces once for the Airflow-network Multizone:surface.

Should those be defined twice in the the airflow network or only once?

What is advised? does it affect the results depending on which side of the wall is included in the network?

2016-02-21 22:59:52 -0500 commented answer Surface effective leakage area

Thank you very much for the answer Sir. I started looking into the reference material and i think I shall find the info required there. Thanks again for the help.

2016-02-20 22:01:34 -0500 asked a question Surface effective leakage area

Greetings to everybody.

I am modelling a free flowing residential house through an airflow network for i intend to use some passive strategies for induced ventilation in the house for my thesis.

From what i gathered infiltration in the Airflow network is modeled either through surface cracks or surface effective leakage area.

Is there any literature on the difference between the 2 ? Is there a set of lookup values (tables ) for concrete walls ?

How about the reference crack conditions ? what are the values that should be used. I have no access to the house for physical measurements.

Thank you for your help

2015-12-13 04:46:54 -0500 answered a question How to use the temperature difference between outdoor and indoor air to reset Ideal Loads Setpoints in Energyplus

@aparker, Thank you very much. Thanks exactly what i did but somehow there seems to be a problem with the model.

The Schedule Compact changes hourly.

When i set my timestep to 1 per hour it works fine with the set points changing accordingly but when i increase the time steps it seems that the program doesnt know what to do during the intervals.

any advice?

2015-12-09 11:29:07 -0500 asked a question How to use the temperature difference between outdoor and indoor air to reset Ideal Loads Setpoints in Energyplus

Using Energyplus for modelling a residential house.

My aim is to reduce energy consumption by varying various parameters of the building. My comfort model is a new relation between outdoor and indoor temperature. I have set up my Airflow network for modelling natural ventilation. Since I am only concerned with the energy use for cooling and heating I'm using Ideal Loads to provide cooling and heating.

Now I would like to set-up my cooling and heating set points to be modified according to the temperature differences.

Any recommendations?
