I am trying to use the difference in outdoor and indoor temperature to model for a Transactive Energy system.

I am using SITE OUTDOOR AIR DRYBULB TEMPERATURE (Environment) [F] for the ambient external air temperature.

However, I do not know whether I should use ZONE THERMOSTAT AIR TEMPERATURE, ZONE AIR TEMPERATURE, ZONE OPERATIVE TEMPERATURE, or ZONE MEAN AIR TEMPERATURE of the living zone as my representative indoor air temperature.

I have noticed that all the fields are pretty much identical except for the operative temperature, which is different by about a few deg F comparing across the same timestep.

Trying to use the new ResStock v2.4.0

When clicking on the following link in the documentation under "1.3 Run the Project," http://buildstock-batch.s3-website-us..., I get the following error:

Please advise. I can only find the documentation for buildstockbatch 0.19, but this version is not used in conjunction with ResStock v2.4.0.

Something caught my surprise when looking through the change log posted by the NREL ResStock teams v2.3.0 update, which can be found here: https://github.com/NREL/OpenStudio-Bu...

Specifically, the change log said, "Remove the single-family detached project, and remove PAT from the testing and multifamily projects."

This is a question targeted specifically to the NREL ResStock team.

Does ResStock v2.3.0 use PAT in any way? What GUI has replaced it, if any? Are simulations not run through a GUI but rather through an engine (similar to oldschool energyplus?).

Right now, I am assuming that I should open project_national in PAT and proceed with a similar method as I have done before with project_single family detached using ResStock v2.2.4.

I was looking on the readthedocs for ResStock v2.3.0, found here: https://resstock.readthedocs.io/en/la.... I find no reference to parametric analysis, but apply upgrade with parameter|option pairing is still a thing so I am assuming that PAT is used in some way.

Note: when opening the buildstockbatch documentation on the latest readthedocs I got a code 404 not found error, so that might be something that the NREL team should look into.

Trying to model the Diakin 3mxl24rmvju in ResStock.

When I specify in options_lookup.tsv a [cfm/ton] min_cooling, max_cooling, min_heating, and max_heating airflow rate, should this be calculated using cfm and tonnage from the submittal/specs for the outdoor unit or the indoor unit(s)? The indoor unit(s) have lower cfm than the outdoor units across all fan speed settings (H, M, L).

Right now I calculate this using the cfm and tonnage (2-ton system) for the outdoor unit, but it gives me a cfm/ton that is a lot higher than comparable equipment in ResStock, which leads me to believe that I should be using the indoor unit cfm instead.

I know that an unmet hour is computed as 1 when the hourly setpoint and hourly zone temperature do not match up: I am trying to code my own unmet hours computation function to see why a few of my simulated buildings have ridiculously large unmet hours.

There are however multiple setpoint fields and zone temperature fields that can be compared:

Hi,

I recently this morning encountered an issue where for some reason the GUI on PAT had complete reset. In order to complete my analysis, I had to re-add various measures to the GUI. In order to access some of the measures, like "Apply Upgrade" that I needed, I reset the directory for "MyMeasures" to be the directory "Users\Username\Desktop\ResStock\OpenStudio-BuildStock-2.2.4\project_singlefamilydetached\measures."

Now, when running my analysis through AWS, I am getting "completed datapoint failure," with the following error in the log file:

failed with message cannot load such file --

I suspect this has something to do with OpenStudio measures and changing "MyMeasures" directory, but I have no idea what the issue is. I have never seen this type of error in a PAT log file before, and I don't know how to interpret it. Please advise.

Hi,

Background: I am using OpenStudio v2.9.0 and EnergyPlus v9.2. I am modelling aggregate residential housing stock using NREL's ResStock v2.2.4.

I am currently trying to determine the number of heads (ie the number of indoor units) for ductless minisplit heat pump modelling, as this affects initial capital cost. In the parametric analysis tool, my input is typically Apply Upgrade = HVAC System Heat Pump|MSHP, SEER 15, 8.5 HSPF to specify a change from a propane furnace + AC baseline building to a building with a SEER 15 MSHP. Nowhere in the PAT GUI do I specify the number of indoor units, so I am assuming that ResStock and PAT are automatically choosing the number of units based off of a default algorithm that takes into account number of rooms, number of living and conditioned spaces, etc.

Is there anywhere in the ResStock output (ie the building characteristics JSON file, the E+ output file, the simulation log file, the results.csv file, or the annual timeseries file (which I save as a pickled dataframe) where I could find the integer number of indoor units for a MSHP simulation?

Hi all,

Context: I am trying to run a simulation using PAT/OpenStudio v2.9.0 and ResStock v2.2.4. I have inputed my own weather file into Worker initialization Script field using a dropbox direct download link, I have manually set the seed value in the ruby file run_sampling, and I have manually edited location, location-region, and vintage TSV files to reflect a location specific to the project. I have changed AMY = 1 in location weather year TSV.

I am trying to simulate a region in Georgia. I am using an EPW file that I purchased from WhiteBox Technology http://weather.whiteboxtechnologies.com/. I have renamed my EPW weather file from its original download file name (NC_ANDREWS-AP_722177_08.epw) to 0979938_US_GA_Clarke_13059_0-20000-0-72311_33.97_-83.34_NSRDB_2.0.1_AMY.epw so that it is recognized by PAT. Before I did this, I was getting an error that the EPW file did not exist or was not an EPW file.

Currently, I am getting completed datapoint failure messages on all buildings of my simulation. Looking through one of the log text files, I discovered that the error is documented by this message:

Any idea what is going on? I am new to OpenStudio and PAT so I don't have a lot of intuition as to why this is happening. Do I have a faulty EPW file? I just downloaded Elements software so that I can edit the EPW file if necessary.

What do "bad start day of week," and "Failed to parse EWP file header" entail?

EDIT: The issue was mispelled day of week in the EPW header! Tuesday was spelled as Tuesdayy!

For anyone who works on the ResStock project, is there a reason that the link to v2.2.4's dependency chart is faulty/missing? It has been really useful in my work so I would like to be able to access it even if there is a more recent version of ResStock available.

Hi all,

I am using ResStock v2.2.4, EnergyPlus v9.2, and OS v2.9.0.

I am working on heat pump electrification projects and realized that we should probably add the cost for an electric panel upgrade to our total installed capital cost, if the houses we are modeling for require upgrades.

The research I have done so far suggests that whether or not a panel upgrade is necessary, and how much it will cost, is really variable from house to house, and depends on what type of breaker is in place (fuse box vs circuit breaker panel), if it will be new vs replacement, and most importantly what the difference in amperage capacity from the old panel to the new panel.

Does ResStock provide data on breaker type in building_characteristics_report? Is there a simulation variable that I could use to estimate total load on the household circuit to see if it exceeds certain amps thresholds?
