2015-12-30 12:04:19 -0500 | asked a question | Window:Material:Shade Parameters Hey, I want to compare Eplus-simulation-results with other Tools (Trnsys, etc.). For the shading models i got the following parameters: "Shading-factor": 96,3% of the radiation are not transmitted when shading is active + a schedule for shading with values between 0 and 1. The other tools don't need input parameter like: Reflectance, Infrared Hemispherical, etc. My questions: Are these proper values for WindowsMaterial:Shade? Thank you very much! |

2015-12-28 04:13:16 -0500 | asked a question | Merge several surfaces in EnergyPlus Hey, for some simulations I needed a "splitted ceiling" (a ceiling was segmented into 4 parts all of the same size). Now I want to implement a concrete-core activation - therefore I would like to merge this 4 parts into one ceiling. Is this possible in EnergyPlus, or do I have to do this in sketchUp? Thank you very much for your help. |
2015-12-23 02:36:12 -0500 | asked a question | EnergyPlus slab modeling Hey, I have to simulate the slab-ground model for a simple building - I don't have detailed information about the ground-structure. Which method would you recommend - and which objects do I need therefor? Are there proper default values, or do they vary highly from structure to structure? Thank you very much for your help. |
2015-12-21 09:15:21 -0500 | asked a question | Simple shading control in EnergyPlus I want to model a simple shading control (input 0-1) - what would be a proper way to implement this in EnergyPlus: Do I need an object: WindowProperty: Shading Control? If so, it is possible to implement this without a "shading-layer"? Regarding shadingType: Are there differencens in the results If i use Interior/Exterior shades/blindes/screens? Thank you very much for your help |
2015-12-09 12:12:08 -0500 | commented answer | Modified weatherfile - time resolution @OS-user-AT - would be really great, if you could send it (g.schweiger@aee.at, if that does not work: gerald.schweiger@student.tugraz.at) thank you very much |

2015-12-07 04:21:54 -0500 | commented answer | Modified weatherfile - time resolution @OS-user-AT great Thank you so much!!!!! Would it be possible, that you send me the weatherfile? Is a lower stepsize also possible (I would need 2min)? |
2015-12-03 06:20:29 -0500 | commented answer | Modified weatherfile - time resolution @OS-user-AT thank you very much for your help - i changed your notes. The reason for the missing data: I run simulations from December - January. If I run a simulation for instance from 1-2January, I get the following error message: Unexpected error condition in middle of reading EPW file, 2013/1/12:0 update: I added a frist row with start 2013,1,1,1,0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/epi8wple4ag... now i can run simulations that start with 1 January - but still get an error if i try to run simualtions in december |
2015-12-02 11:39:12 -0500 | asked a question | Modified weatherfile - time resolution Hey, I converted a weather file (through elements excel ) - tried 10 different ways, but it still does not work Here the link to the weather file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m8hqapzdc69... Maybe someone could help - thank you very much!! I need to finish a paper and the only thing that does not work is to import that measured climate data :/. |

2015-12-02 06:05:15 -0500 | answered a question | Weather file 10min resolution Hey, now I fixed the problem with the time-data. Just the months january and December – not an entire jear, hope that this is OK (because I want to simulate just this 2 months). I can open the file in elements. I can copy the Temperature – everything works. But if I try to copy relative humidity etc. it does not work – just empty cells. I can’t copy the data in excel into the epw file – if I try: I can’t open the file in elements/Eplus. It would be so great if someone could have a look at this - I need to finish a paper and the only thing that does not work is to import that measured climate data :/. epw file with time steps: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bwlzu6v0cx8... 2015-11-28 08:57:48 -0500 | asked a question | Weather file 10min resolution Hey, I have created an .epw file with a 10min resolution (https://www.dropbox.com/s/x3at7ewjqsb...) . When I try to run a simulation I get the error-message: Do you have any idea about this problem? |
2015-11-23 10:39:44 -0500 | asked a question | Multiple-year Simulation Hey, I know that there is a discussion on yahoo about that topic - but i dont want to give yahoo my phone-number :). So my question: How must i modify a .epw file to run multiple-year simulations? And then just add: RundPeriod: CustomRange right? Thank you very much for your help! |
2015-11-15 05:04:24 -0500 | asked a question | Simulation period with measured Data Hey, I have to run a building-simulation for a given period (November - February). My question: I have measured data for the parameters (just for this period): Temperature, RelHum, Windspeed; Radiation (norm, dif); skyCover. Do i need to set the simulation start to november ( = hour: ca. 8000) or can i start just with 0? Are there parameters (like the position of the sun) so that there is a differnt result if i start the simulation at hour 8 000 or 0 (January)? If i have to start with hour 8000 (November) --> what would be a proper method: To copy measured data (like a week) and pase them into the first 8000 values, or should i just start the simulation at hour 8000? I have also measured data (like shade-control, etc.) for this period: Does E+ automatically recognize at schedule:File if the "time-column" start at 8000, or do i have to add values from 0-8000? Thank you very much for your help! |
2015-11-14 08:00:03 -0500 | asked a question | EnergyPlus Time-step, Simulation-Time Hey, I have measured weather data (10min resolution) and I want to simulate in 2-min steps. My question: I heard that it should be possible to add different time-steps for weather data. Must the simulation-step size and the input-weather step size equal? Or is it possible to have 10min resolution input and 2 output? Thanks for your help |
2015-10-09 03:15:09 -0500 | asked a question | EnergyPlus Energy-Balance Hey, is there a simple possibility to calculate (output variable) the energy balance of a building? Thank you for your help! |
2015-10-07 04:02:57 -0500 | asked a question | EnergyPlus geometry output Hey, is there a possibility in EnergyPlus (output variable?) where i can see the geomtry (square meter) of each construction? |
2015-09-28 04:20:07 -0500 | asked a question | Difference of n50 and infiltration rate Could anyone explain me, what is the difference between the n50 value and the infiltration rate? In my project I got to the infiltration rate but I need the n50 value (for comparing simulation results and for a presentation). The infiltration rate is 0,11/h. |
2015-08-26 09:56:58 -0500 | asked a question | EnergyPlus IdealLoadAirSystem vs. Internal Gains I run a simulation with HVAC:Template:IdealLoadAirSystem with a constant heating setpoint 20°C (in January, max outside temperature 13°C). Then i calculatet - from the Zone Ideal Loads Zone Total Heating Energy the - the required Energy in Watt. Imported that file through schedule:File and add "ElectricEquipment" with schedule Name (the name from schedule:file) + delete the IdealLoadAirSystem. The result I expacted: The zone air temperature is 20°C The result I get: The Electric Equipment Total Heating Energy is the same than the Ideal Zone Total Heating Energy. But the temperature i different (up to 2K). Has anybody an idea? |
2015-08-26 06:38:48 -0500 | asked a question | EnergyPlus, OpenStudio workshops As part of my PhD study I have to do with building-simulation. It is not the main part of my work and so there is not that much time for trial-and-error learning. Does anyone offer online-workshops (skype for example)? I think I would need 3 x 2h or something like that :). Questions regarding integrating measured data into HVAC, implementing HVAC, etc. |
2015-08-25 04:11:29 -0500 | commented answer | Combining and adapting HVAC templates in EnergyPlus Thank you so much! A few more questions: a) I deleted the branch: HotWaterloop Demand Bypass Branch - is that OK (if i have one zone)? b) Then i deleted "Demand Bypass Branch" in BranchList c) But when i delete the Hot water loop Demand Splitter and Mixer (if there is no bypass and just 1 zone, i do not need a Splitter and Mixer right?) - then i got the Severe: There are multiple branches, yet no splitter. This is an invalid conf. Add a set of connectors, use put components on a single branch. If I add a Splitter and Mixer - it works. d) Do i need surfaceGroup if i have just one radSurface? |
