openstudio unable to connect to amazon EC2

I am having issues with the Openstudio ParametricAnalysisTool. It will not connect to the amazon cloud.

When trying to check usage I get the following error message: CheckTotalInstances process failed to return output. Verify settings from Cloud menu.

When trying to activate cloud I get the following error message: ValidateCredentials process failed to return output. Verify settings from Cloud menu.

Has anyone encountered these before? Any ideas on what to do? I am more than 100% sure about the keyId and secret access key's because I simply copy pasted them into the fields. There is nothing else to do but click next so I know its not a credentials issue.

Is there a particular port that I have to have open? my port 80 is already open.
