EPW Stat File References

Hi All,

I am working on using EnergyPlus in resilience simulations, and am 'turning off the power' for the extreme hot and extreme cold weeks identified in the STAT file. I am curious if someone can explain to me, or provide resources as to how the extreme weeks are determined in the STAT file and what the deviation in there represents. I calculated the max, standard deviation and average for the drybulb temperatures during the period, but none of these reflect the deviation identified in the STAT file.

For context, I am hoping to compare these weeks from multiple years of EPW files to find the most extreme summer and winter periods in a 20 year span, so I can simulate 2 weather files rather than 20.

Thanks Al

See sample from STAT file below - Typical/Extreme Period Determination

  • Summer is Jul:Sep Extreme Summer Week (nearest maximum temperature for summer) Extreme Hot Week Period selected: Jul 29:Aug 4, Maximum Temp= 34.94C, Deviation=| 5.708|C Typical Summer Week (nearest average temperature for summer) Typical Week Period selected: Jul 1:Jul 7, Average Temp= 25.65C, Deviation=| 0.036|C

  • Winter is Jan:Mar Extreme Winter Week (nearest minimum temperature for winter) Extreme Cold Week Period selected: Jan 29:Feb 4, Minimum Temp= -31.97C, Deviation=|17.081|C Typical Winter Week (nearest average temperature for winter) Typical Week Period selected: Feb 19:Feb 25, Average Temp= -3.28C, Deviation=| 0.725|C
