I understand from other posts that there is not a direct way to specify an end-use subcategory like you can for internal gains and fans, etc., and that there are workarounds such as EMS or Meter:Custom. But I'm having trouble with the later. In my case I have a building with AHUs and RTUs and I need to split up the energy. I have tried several iterations similar to this:
Meter:Custom,
AHU Cooling Energy, !- Name
Electricity, !- Fuel Type
EL01GroceryAHU01 PSZ-AC 1spd DX AC Clg Coil, !- Key Name
Air System DX Cooling Coil Electricity Energy, !- Output Variable or Meter Name
EL01GroceryAHU02 PSZ-AC 1spd DX AC Clg Coil, !- Key Name
Air System DX Cooling Coil Electricity Energy, !- Output Variable or Meter Name
EL01SalesAHU03 PSZ-AC 1spd DX AC Clg Coil; !- Key Name
Air System DX Cooling Coil Electricity Energy; !- Output Variable or Meter Name
And confirmed this variable in the RDD file (and confirmed it's a summed variable, as specified int he documentation:
Output:Variable,*,Air System DX Cooling Coil Electricity Energy, hourly; !- HVAC Sum [J]
 and also tried with:
Output:Variable,*,Cooling Coil Electricity Energy,hourly; !- HVAC Sum [J]
and a few others. In all cases I get this error (or similar):
** Severe ** Line: 79650 Index: 35 - "Cooling Coil Electricity Energy" is not a valid Object Type.
 Any suggestions?
