Why do I add shadows to my house but the interior temperature does not change? In OS

I am simulating a house, and when I add eaves to the roof to have shadows on the wall and windows, they basically have no effect on the interior temperature of the house. I do not understand why. Am I missing any steps? I already assigned the material type and transmittance schedule 0

In terms of diagnosing what's going on, the first question I'd ask is how big the eaves are? Maybe try adding some really big overhangs that would have to have a large effect and see if that works. If it does, it tells you that the shading is at least being picked up, and perhaps it's just a sign that your eaves are too small/far from the windows to have a significant impact.

You could also specifically look at the incident solar on your windows to see if that's changing.

If your eaves are opaque, then you also don't need a transmittance schedule, so I'd probably remove that too.

The eaves are 50 cm, and at the entrance of the house it is 1 meter. I performed a shadow analysis in SketchUp and it perfectly covers the window surfaces for several hours of the day.

Hmm, that should do something yeah.

Another few things you could look at (though they probably aren't the answer):

  • What's your solar distribution set to in "Building"?
  • Do your external walls have solar exposure turned off?

Another general debugging technique when you're really stumped is to just make a quick new simple single zone model, and see if you find the same issue there. If you don't, then you know it's something you've done differently between the two models. Alternatively, if it also has the issue it's always easier to fix a simple model.
