hello everyone I modeled a building in Openstudio software and then export idf file which has no error and the 3d model is fine, but when I want to import idf file in Designbuider software the surfaces of model are changed and the whole model distorted, what is the problem? I use E+ 22.2 version

Hello Sheida,

Can you please share the .idf and .osm files so I can take a look and help you? I suspect the building model is too far from the origin (X, Y, Z = 0,0,0).

If you don't want to make these files public, you can send a private email to https://support.designbuilder.co.uk/ or supportdesk@designbuilder.co.uk.

it is not too far from origin, the coordinates for zones are positive but the coordinates for surfaces became negative in idf file...I don'tlink text know how can I fix it. I shared my idf file now.

DesignBuilder IDF import functionality currently does not support the relative coordinate system and your IDF model is using this Relative method.

"Geometry created with any of the relative coordinates options is not yet supported." Source: https://designbuilder.co.uk/helpv7.3/...

This can be checked by looking at the Coordinate System field on the GeometryGlobalRules object and and by looking at the Zones. If the zone X, Y, Z origin points are different then 0,0,0.

thanks for your complete answer, is it possible to revise the coordination of surfaces in IDF file without any change in the mode or I need to set the origin of the plan at 0,0,0 and then model it from first step?

The DesignBuilder is not looking at this property, it always assumes that the coordinate system is World. Yes, the value can stay Relative in the IDF file. If you want this model geometry to be imported correctly into DB then you need to update the geometry in a way that would reflect the World coordinate system. In practice, you can do this by updating the surface geometry (BuildingSurface:Detailed objects) X, Y, Z coordinates to work as if the Zone origins were at 0, 0, 0. Does this make sense?

Have you read EnergyPlus Version Compatibility?

The latest DesignBuilder is compatible with EnergyPlus v9.4.

You should also check OpenStudio SDK Version Compatibility Matrix or OpenStudio Application Version Compatibility Matrix.

If we want to exchange idf files between different software, I think we should basically use the same EnergyPlus version compatible software to avoid errors. Or we can update the idf file version by IDFVersionUpdater in order to match the version, but we cannot convert idf files to older versions.
