Multiple shading control without EMS

Is it possible to add two shading controls without using EMS? I want to close the curtains at night and when there is high solar radiation on the window during summer days.

For complex fenestration, shading control is done via EMS. Otherwise, yes: multivariable control is possible. You're likely after OnNightAndOnDayIfCoolingAndHighSolarOnWindow, or similar (edit: initial comment re-posted as an answer).

OnNightAndOnDayIfCoolingAndHighSolarOnWindow can not work in a free floating caolculations What will be in this case the best option?

Unfortunately, I don't see a perfect replacement option - something like an OnNightAndOnDayIfHighOutdoorAirTempAndHighSolarOnWindow option. EMS aside, have you considered OnIfScheduleAllows? e.g. shaded ("1"):

  • 18:00 to 8:00 (next day)
  • January to March, then December
  • DBT < 15°C

Preprocess the EPW to extract these. Then combine with a summer mode, e.g. shaded ("1"):

  • April to November
  • 8:00 to 18:00
  • DBT > 15°C
  • solar > 200 W/m2 (+)

(+) run an initial simulation to plot Surface Outside Face Net Thermal Radiation Heat Gain Rate per Area

Thank you for your answer. Your suggestion OnNigthAndOnDayIfHighOutdoodAirTemperatureAndHighSolarOnWindow solves only partially the issue, usually during summer time at night the shade should be Off and not On. Using OnIfSchedulleAllows using two schedules (one for winter nights an other for summer day) is an option but is necessary to determine with some preliminary calculation the winter and summer season: Schedule control type similar to: On Night If Low external temperature, On Day If High External Temperature, Else Off Could be better approach. In addition, during “fresh” night the shade

In addition, during “fresh” night the shade covers 100% of the window but during “hot” days the shade covers only x% of the window. Someone has some idea how to model this kind of shading? I’ve tried to do it using two calculations one for “winter” shading and a second one with “summer” shading and then mixing results but it requires too many work.

Sounds like a good case for EMS!

Yes it is the case. No problem to make a routine for activate or disactivate shading according temperatures, solar radiation but I can not find the way to change the “intensity” of the shading from xx% during summer days to y% during winter night.
