HeatPump:PlantLoop:EIR objects not operating with geo connection
I have a building where I am using the HeatPump:PlantLoop:EIR heating and cooling objects to simulate a central water to water heat pump connected to a geothermal loop on the source side.
This seems to be a common problem as it has been asked recently a few other times, however implementing the answer posted here https://unmethours.com/question/54109... (hard sizing a load side flow rate and reference capacity), does not help. If I leave these values set to auto-size the model will simulate but the Heat pump will never come on resulting in no energy consumption and lots of unmet hours, water controller issues, etc.
If I hard size values, the plant immediately become far too hot or far too cold upon warmup, depending on the inputs.
I've uploaded the current IDF model which terminates due to being fair too hot, and the error file, here; https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/o1q15b...
I will add the geo loop is undersized for the heating load, which is as per the design, and there is a back up conventional boiler which does come on if I can get the model to simulate.
Is this simply a mis-match of hard-sized and auto-sized inputs, or is there some control strategy, or bug, that I'm missing?
Hello Abarker, I use centeral water to water heat pumps all the time, but I exclusively use the Type - equation fit. DesignBuilder has several manufacturers equipment in the library. Can you get a hold of some of this equipment?
Hi @Greg Estep, thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't thought to switch to a different object type, however when doing so unfortunately I get the same issue - the program is simply not recognizing the heat pump objects in my set up and not turning them on to attempt to meet the loads.
