Hi,

I am trying to evaluate the replacement of a gas boiler for an office building air-conditioning system, with a heat pump that can meet the air-conditioning needs of the building in both summer and winter.

Could you tell me what component I should use in OpenStudio to simulate a heat pump using air as a cold source, with these characteristics?

https://www.rhoss.it/products/tcaei-t...

Specifically, I have to evaluate the THAETI 4350 model

I have read some old discussions about there not being such a component available in OS yet, but maybe with the new versions of the programme the problem has been solved

Thank you

@GSirotti just to confirm, you want to model a heat pump that has air on the condenser side to to chill water on the evaporator side? I ask because your title mentions Water-to-Air heat pump, but you tagged air-to-water-heat-pump.

excuse me, I mean a heat pump that, in winter operation, uses outside air as a source at the evaporator and produces hot water at the condenser (to feed a fan coil system), while, in summer operation, it behaves exactly the opposite. I'm sorry if I didn't use the proper English name.

@GSirotti no worries, thank you for clarifying. In that case, you want to model an air-to-water heat pump that can do both heating and cooling on the water side. EnergyPlus has this capability, so you would need to search the HVAC library of the OpenStudio Application version that you're using to see if it's available there. If not, you will need to find or write a measure to apply it to your OpenStudio model.

OK, I tried searching in the OpenStudio library (version 1.5.0), but there isn't a component with that name. Could it have a different nomenclature in the library?

Should I look for a component or a measure in the BCL? I don't know how to write a custom one for my purpose.

hello ,@Aaron Boranian I have tried to update the OpenStudio version to the latest 3.5.1, but I still cannot display the HeatPump:PlantLoop:EIR:Cooling component in the library. I've also tried looking for a component in the BCL that I can download, but there doesn't seem to be anything there that I can use (only VRF terminals are included). I was wondering if it might be correct to simulate heat pump operation as described here
