Hello!

I am an electrical engineer using Openstudio for the first time in my life and I am modelling a ten-story building.

I am aware of the fact that the absorption chiller in Openstudio uses district heating (hot water or steam) as the heat source.

When the results were generated by the measure "OpenstudioResults" , despite the setpoint temperatures were set properly, the cooling load in HVAC profile is displayed less than heating load during August.

These are my questions:

  1. Is it because the absorption chiller uses the district heating as heat source or miscalculation due to the design failure?

  2. What exactly are considered in calculation of district heating and cooling load?

  3. Is it okay to set the first node on the demand side air loop as the reference node of the setpoint manager "Follow System Node Temperature" ?

  4. The actual energy consumed from the HVAC operations in the subject building was metered to be 330 Gcalories with conservative operations instructions without any consideration of energy optimization. However, the cooling load simulated by Openstudio was determined to be 70MBtu which is 18 Gcalories. Is it possible for Openstudio to derive extremely conservative results?

  5. Is it normal to get the results with lesser cooling load when using the absorption chiller, compared to the electric chiller?

I appreciate your time for this.

Thank you!
