Opening large HTML output file from EnergyPlus

Hi all,

I am facing the problem of opening the generated HTML summary from EnergyPlus (eplustbl.htm). The file is approx. 60MB large, making any browser crash.

The only workable solution is to open it in Excel, which breaks the hyperlinks making navigation barely workable among 100k + rows.

Any ideas how to work with such large files in a browser?

The energy model is built with DesignBuilder 7.0.2.004, if that matters.

Thanks!

@furtonb have you tried using DesignBuilder's Results Viewer? It will open the summary report along with the ESO file, which contains all of the time-series output variables and meters, so it may take a while to load if you've requested many of those. You can download it here.

Hi Aaron,

Thank you for your reply! Yes, I am familiar with it, but I'm not sure how to load the HTML summary with it. The "Summary" tab in DesignBuilder loads the EnergyPlus summary just fine, but we do not have enough licenses for all the people that might do postprocessing of the results.

As a result, Excel is our go-to solution now, but we would prefer a browser-based solution to keep navigation with the hyperlinks intact. We would be happy to have working links in Excel. What is the way to communicate this request for the EnergyPlus developer team? Through GitHub?

Just to be clear...you need a license for DesignBuilder itself but you don't need a license for DesignBuilder's (separate) Results Viewer tool, it is freely available to anyone using EnergyPlus.

Yes, I know it's free, and I use it to dig into hourly results. The question is about the HTML based EP summary report, which I tend to look at in the DesignBuilder Analysis/Summary tab. Can you also load this summary to the Results Viewer? If so, problem solved.:)

Yes, the EP summary report is available in Results Viewer.
