Failure to import idf energyplus examples?

I am looking at using the EnergyPlus example files as a means of showing state-of-the-art modelling capability for my Building Science class.
I am essentially supplementing LadyBug Tools as a way of readily building .osm files that produce really useful output analyses.
But, addition of PV, Thermal Chimneys, Heat Recovery and so on are capabilities of E+ that are not yet readily worked with in LBT. I have resorted to extracting relevant .idf files from the E+ example files directory. I noted that the AirflowNetwork files are not loaded into LBT when trying to load the AFN with Heat Recovery example.
Now, I am trying to load / import the same .idf files - and finding the same issue.
Clearly, the file versions are OK, but there is something in the data dictionary that needs attention. What I am unsure of is whether to post this here or on the E+ support discussion.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@the_donn can you confirm whether you are trying to import an EnergyPlus example file into the OpenStudio Application or Ladybug tools (or something else)?
The OpenStudioApplication is catching a non-valid IDF i.e.
_idfFile.isValid == false. The IDF version string on file matches the E+ version shipped with OpenStudio, but that doesn't mean all objects on file are valid. What do you get when you click on "Show Details..."?... and were you able to run the IDF using E+ (e.g. EP-Launch, command line)?
@the_donn the exact details are going to depend on how you answer Aaron's question above, but AFAIK AirflowNetwork objects are not part of the subset of objects that OpenStudio imports.
@the_donn since these are example files, could you just share the name of a specific one you're having trouble with so we can replicate (or the file itself if you made modifications)?
As far as the OpenStudio ReverseTranslator goes (IDF -> OSM conversion), the short story is that you should expect only basic things to be imported: the building geometry, constructions, schedules, curves, loads, thermostats, etc. Loops (AirLoopHVAC, PlantLoop) are certainly not imported, and neither is the AFN stuff as Jason already pointed out.
The PV isn't reverse translated either (some generators are).
