Recently, EnergyPlus has benn updated from version 9.6.0 to 22.1.0. This raises the question: What version naming convention is used in EnergyPlus? I know different softwares use different naming conventions, so what is the standard used in EnergyPlus? The number 22 seems to be the year of release, is thar right?

EnergyPlus recently switched the way that their releases are versioned. As described here:

We will go with the YY.V.P approach, where:

  • YY is the two digit year
  • V is the release number for that year, which will always be 1 or 2 until we really make drastic release changes
  • P is the patch number which will always be 0 for the major releases, but could be 1 if we make a patch version
