EnergyPlus API: Help with Python?

Hi, Wondering if anyone can give me some guidance on how EnergyPlus works. Particularly with python. Currently working on the implementation of a Black Box model to optimise HVAC control using EnergyPlus simulations and considering using either the API or standard simulations.

There is very little information out there on EnergyPlus which is a real shame as it makes it extremely hard to learn independently so any help would be greatly appreciated if anyone can spare a couple minutes!

Have you attempted to run the OpenStudio with EnergyPlus API notebook made by jmarrec on github? I had trouble running the file as the graphs outputted from my run were blank. For reference please see the "issues" tab on github for a full explanation... but thanks I'll have a look at the other documenations.
