Can you save floorplan in .osm file for future editing?

I am making my first building in SketchUp 2020 using the Openstudio plugin v1.1.0.

My current workflow is to import a floorplan (.dwg) into SketchUp. I can then trace over it and use the Openstudio tool to create spaces (create space from the diagram).

I then save the .osm file.

If I want to work on the file later, I open a blank SketchUp file and then open the .osm file. I can work on the spaces but the floorplan is gone. Is there a way to keep it in the .osm?

I have tried saving the SketchUp file as well (ie. open SketchUp file for the building. Then I open the .osm, but this causes an error as the plugin gets confused with SketchUp surfaces and everything is wireframe or solid white. Also, the other Openstudio tools no longer work). Since then I've read it's best to only work with the .osm files.

thank you for any advice!
