DView for OpenStudio on Linux

asked 2020-09-11 10:34:44 -0500

I'd like to use DView with the OpenStudio App (v1.0.1) on Linux. I'm looking for information about using DView on Ubuntu since it isn't bundled with the app and there isn't a standalone release for it like there is for Windows. A couple options and questions I have are...

  1. Download SAM for Linux - can DView be used as a standalone application?
  2. Build WEX following the Linux Build Instructions - can DView be built for Linux this way?

At least for recent openstudio versions, DView is bundled with the package - check /usr/local/openstudio-version/bin. It just can't be found easily as /usr/local/openstudio-version/bin isn't in user's path (note that openstudio or OpenStudioApp have symbolic links added to /usr/local/bin, which is usually included in the $PATH variable, so they can be found from the command line).

If in your openstudio version DView isn't there, then another possible option is to download a recent one and use DView bundled with it.

@antoineg it is not. PAT and DView are not included in the OpenStudio Application installer as of v1.0.0.

Note that PAT and DView are not included in the OpenStudio Application installer. You will need to install PAT separately which is distributed on the OpenStudio-PAT GitHub page and DView at the Dview home page.
