Hello, I am new to this program. I am looking for some help solving a degenerate surface fatal error. I attached a link to the idf files and copied the error file below. Any help or guidance in the right direction would be greatly apprecaited.

Thank you

Did you read the error message? It says: "There are 3 degenerate surfaces; Degenerate surfaces are those with number of sides < 3. These surfaces should be deleted".

and how am I supposed to determine which three surfaces need to be deleted or how to select them in the model?

"For explicit details on each problem surface, use Output:Diagnostics,DisplayExtraWarnings;". If you add this object to your IDF file and re-run it, it will give additional information.

I added that to the end of my in.idf file and pre-process.idf file, went back into openstudio and ran the simulation. I then checked the error file but it didnt mention degenerate surfaces, it mainly provided things like:

Program Version,EnergyPlus, Version 9.2.0-921312fa1d, YMD=2020.05.29 10:38, * Severe * <root>[Coil:Cooling:WaterToAirHeatPump:EquationFit][Wtr-to-Air HP Clg Coil 1] - Missing required property 'water_inlet_node_name'.

Any advice? Am I doing this correctly? You have helped tremendously so far. I will try re-post the error file above.

Running the OpenStudio simulation will overwrite the EnergyPlus input files you edited. You can use this measure in OpenStudio to add the output diagnostics to your simulation.
