Obtaining "simulation command generated no results, stuffing with 0" in OS and Radiance

Hi, i am working with radiance and very interested in simulating diffuse transmitance materials in radiance. OS 1.7 is supposed to be able to model material either 100% specular or 100% diffusing.

I have downloaded and installed 1.7 but when i perform a radiance simulation i am getting the following: INFO: simulation command generated no results, stuffing with 0's

and then the illuminance maps are full of 0s.

Is this a bug or i am doing something wrong ?

If i install 1.6 or 1.6.1 and do the same simulation, i can obtain results different from 0s.

It's a little of both. The error message you get is likely due to a problem with your model, but the message is pretty lame and unhelpful as a diagnostic tool. Sorry about that! It would be helpful to see your "stdout" and "stderr" log files from the Radiance run, which are in the "1-Ruby-0" directory inside your model's companion directory. Can you post them someplace, or email them to me directly?

Update1 (2015.04.16): Thanks for the files @altamar, "unfortunately", your model ran fine for me. Looking at your log file again, the Radiance version reported is 4.1a, looking like a Diva/Daysim build by Alstan:

Sounds like even though you have installed a couple of the NREL Radiance packages on your system, OpenStudio is still using an older install. In the OpenStudio menu, go to Preferences...Show Tools and look at what the RunManager Preferences dialog shows you for the Radiance tool(s):

image description

Ideally you should only have one entry for Radiance in this list, and the path should be to the most recent NREL version you have on your system (4.3.a.2 is recommended for Windows users at the moment). Do not worry about the major/minor/build entries in this dialog for Radiance. Just make sure there is one entry for Radiance, and that the path points to your 4.3.a.2 installation. OpenStudio will set the system variables correctly from there, for your OpenStudio-Radiance runs. Set that up, and run it again and let us know how you make out.

I have been doing radiance simulations in a cube, and doing the exact procedure, from 1.6.2 to 1.7 i can not get results different from zero. Here are the files, thanks!

Thanks. One thing that may be causing an issue is your version of Radiance. Would you post a link to your osm and your epw files, as well? (Sorry, I probably should have asked for those in the first place along with the log files!)

The files have been uploaded to the same folder.

I was using Radiance4.3.a-win32 but i did the downgrade to Radiance4.2.2-win32, and it happens with both versions.

I am using Ruby2.0x64. Thanks a lot!

@rpg777

As you mentioned, i had installed DIVA in my PC, who installed Radiance 4.1.

Even when the RunManager Preferences was pointing to the new install of Radiance (v4.2), OS was using the version from DIVA.

I uninstalled DIVA and now my simulations are working again!

Thanks for the support! I would not have noticed this detail.

Thank YOU, for your perseverance. We will try and make that error message more informative, as well.
