Baseline Return Air Path

Dear all, I need your opinion regarding how to decide the return air path for the baseline model when referencing ASHRAE 90.1-2013. Is there any code I can reference to tell me how to model the baseline model return air path when the proposed model uses duct return? I assume the baseline return air path should be the same as the proposed model, but I don't have any solid reference. Thank you
